Baron Opal
First Post
...Your players start up a 401(k), in character.
So, I don't know if someone watched Rob Roy last week, but yesterday's session was one of those "inbetween" sessions where you count your loot and gear up for the next adventure. They've gotten tight with a local noble, and they help each other out from time to time. So, they have this pile of gold after selling the gems, armor and the rest. One of the players wants to take a chunk of change and give it to the Baron, to invest. The baron details three concerns, silver mines (safest), crystal mining (dangerous, but known hazards) and spice harvesting (jungle harvesting, unknown hazards, very risky).
So, what do they do? They deversify their investments. They split their investments between the spice harvesting and the crystal mining. They decide that if some monster jumps out of the jungle and eats the harvesters they can go down there and stomp it. Then, they can recover their spice shipment and get xp, too! Win-win!
Once we realized what we were doing, we had a good laugh and one of the players said "Never in D&D before have I made investments. We didn't even think of this when I was 18. *sigh* From beer and wenches to 401(k)s, we are now old gamers."
