Your Favorite Region in the Forgotten Realms

As a dedicated FRealms hater, that I can even answer this question is amazing to me. But I love the Shining South, particularly the wilderness of the Shaar.

If you can't go there, then go to Thay. All glory to Szass Tam!

Ive got to go with The Silver Marches/The North. Lots of challenges there, not the least of which is the harsh climate and the roving bands of evil baddies. Also nice bases of operation like Silverymoon and Everlund keep the characters collective arses out of the proverbial sling when they need the protection that only city walls seem to provide. Overstock dot com might still have copies of the silver marches guide, which is a pretty nice little treatise from which to build your personal campaign. Have fun!

Hmmm.....Lake of Steam, Unapprachable East, Vilhon Reach, Moonsea (where some traditional FR material can seep in, but not too much) and the Old Empires (Mulhorand etc).

Basically anywhere NOT Waterdeep, North, Heartlands, Cormyr, or the Dalelands. I started playing FR in 1st edition, so all the older traditional FR locales are beyond played out for me. I don't much play any FR these days anyway, though.

But i am buying the Ancient Empires book thats coming out for FR next year. I have always been more interested in the ancient empires of FR than the modern ones!

Calimshan and Lake of Steam.

A good mix of ruins, cities, intrigue, and places to explore with a decent range of terrain types, people, and personalities.

All finely detailed in (what I consider to be) one of the best FR products in existence: the Empires of the Shining Sea box set.

Ditto all that.

I love the Dalelands because of the long and detailed history and the quality and quantity of really interesting adventure sites. The Silver Marches and the North are also wonderful areas for running a campaign as is the Unapproachable East (a more recent discovery for me thank thanks to the hardback book by the same name).

Actually, I like so many regions that I struggle to nominate a favourite. I suppose I'll have to go with the Dalelands but that could change.
