Your Favorite RPG Supplement, for any Game, Period

Strikeforce by Aaron Allston was a really cool Champions supplement. Lots of nice ideas in there.

Very nice, but it's not even my favorite Hero Games product. That would be Lands of Mystery also by Aaron. Not only did it give you tools to run a Lost World Justice, Inc. campaign, it also gave a feel for how to handle running characters of widely divergent power levels in the same game.

The best RPG supplement, in my mind, would have to be a tie between Trollpak & Griffin Mountain for Runequest.

Trollpak is, by far, the best and most detailed race sourcebook for any RPG. It contains discussion on "scientific" discussion of their darksense while also containing the mythological history of the race. It has great sidebars, such as the list of things a troll ate while caged by a scholar. The adventures are excellent, with some interesting NPCs and novel encounters (starting off with a drinking contest).

Griffin Mountain on the other hand is a great detailed campaign setting. It has an area of relative civilization with three citadels each controlled by different powers from the campaign world. It also has an area purely for exploration. There are many, many encounters and mini-adventures included in the book. One of the most memorable gives you a chance to free a major spirit/minor goddess from her imprisonment and get a chance to help restart her worship.

Not bad for something that started as a Judges Guild RQ supplement. When Paul Jacquays went to Greg to get approval for the non-Gloranthan supplement Greg liked it so much it got turned into a Gloranthan supplement and grew, and grew and grew (it's huge, even by today's standards).

Lands of Mystery: BEST. RPG. BOOK. EVAR. No other has even come close, from the writing to the artwork, it's all the best of the best.

The Justice, Inc. boxed set is a fairly near second, tho still not in the same league.

Then there's all that other stuff, like, the rest of the gaming industry.

Ah, boy ... makin' me choose ...

I got a great deal of use and pleasure out of the following 2E products: Drow of the Underdark; Monster Mythology; Aurora's Whole Realms Catalog.

If I had to choose one thing that wasn't a core book I guess I'd take ... urg, hard to choose ... either the original FR boxed set or the original Planescape boxed set. That's as close as I can get to choosing. I'd take the stuff out of one box and put it in the other and try to sneak them both out with me!

The rulebook from the box set gets my vote for favorite cover. The art is not incredibly high from a technical standpoint. My gaming group would still spend a long time trying to name every single person on the cover.

Wow. How to narrow it to just one.

If I try to think of it in terms of "what one product has the greatest contribution to my overall gaming experience", with admitting that it's cheating a bit, I'll say the Dragon CD Rom Archive.

If you want more traditional products, I can't choose. If you insist, roll a d6:
1: Hyperconscious
2: Manual of the Planes (3e)
3: Manual of the Planes (1e)
4: World Builder's Guide (2e)
5: Book of the Righteous
6: Blood & Fists (I'd name Ultimate Martial Artist here, but it's sort of an outgrowth of it's system)

Tough call...

For pure usefulness, I would have to give the vote to Sharn: City of Towers. Tons of npcs, adventure hooks, and locations.

**Keep in mind I played some AD&D but skipped all of 2nd edition and most of 3rd other than Eberron.

In order of awesomeness:

1. Masks of Nyarlathotep Campaign (boxed set) - Call of Cthulhu

2. Planescape Campaign Setting - AD&D

3. I6 Ravenloft - AD&D

4. Shadows over Bogenhafen - WFRP

5. DarkStryder Campaign - Star Wars d6
