what do you mean?

the expression is "warms the cockles of my/your heart"

and a sorta paraphrase of jack in "as good as it gets" in his line to helen hunt's character when she was looking for a compliment. it was a play on w3rds.

for me my most surprising purchase recently has been: Dungeon Magazine. the thing is getting way better.

Complete Adventurer. I don't much dig on bards or rogues, so I was dubious as to how much use I'd get out of it; but man! Talk about a pleasant surprise! All the stuff in that book that is designed to help multiclassing, all the cool new skill uses, many really interesting prcs... the scout! Good stuff, glad I got it- I'd even go so far as to say it's the best of the series.

I'd say the Snarfquest d20 sourcebook. Not that I was surprised at enjoying it, but I found the DMing advice to be really solid, useful beyond a comic Snarfquest game.

Gamma World DMG. The book is all about running games, not stuffed full of NPC charts and wacky rule changes. Like the Scarred Lands books from Sword and Sorcery its packed full of ideas and concepts... in other words flufftastic. It was canned by Gamma World gamers because they were expecting crunch and it the book was light (as in missing) that.

I've read it twice and I think its great. I wish I felt as good about the Gamma World PHB. :\

Monte Cook's Unearthed Arcana. I picked it up and found that I had a book that improved on D&D in small but juicy ways. I've used the rules from that book for the past 3 years to replace the rules in the PHB (they are mostly the same). I don't use the races or spell system, but I do use the classes.

Most recently I'd have to say the Forgotten Realms hardcover. I will be joining a FR campaign so I picked up the book for some background. I wasn't familiar with the setting at all and had always balked at it in the past. I was pleasantly surprised by what I found.

Indeed. After a long, long hiatus I've been picking them up again... and they are good. I'm actually thinking about picking up the Shackled City uber-adventure based on all the good reviews it's gotten.

A'koss.
