Your preferred name for the Queen of Spiders

Since this came up in another thread, but was off-topic, how about we vote on it?

Lloth is the FR name, used by Salvatore and Cunningham, FOR THE DROW WAY OF PRONOUNCING HER NAME (which is how they got away with it, I think). FWIW I agree with them and much prefer it, as it somehow feels linguistically better to my ears. After all, these 2 authors have pretty much defined FR Drow society.

Lolth was the Greyhawk name. In an email she sent me recently, Elaine Cunningham mentions that the "Official" spelling of the Spider Queen's name, even in FR, has been reverted back to Lolth with the advent of 3rd edition. So in "Windwalker" you will see Lolth as the spelling (and probably "War of the Spider Queen", but I am waiting for the whole series before reading so i wouldn't know).

Which do you like better?

Ever since picking up a decent amount of Welsh, I really have to side with "Lolth" as the spelling. I just read the other one as something pretty much completely different because of that double L.

I don't speak Welsh, but I do live in the City of Chester right on its borders. LL in Welsh is rather like you are clearing your throat, ready to spit Blackadder put it well, when he said you need half a pint of phlegm in your throat to speak it

Personally I love the Welsh, but apparently there is still an old law on Chester's records that says if you find a Welshman within the confines of our city walls after dark, you can run him through with impunity! Might not help the modern local economy, since most of the city centre is within the walls, but hey who am I to argue?
