Your Top 5 Superhero Outfits

After seeing a few Youtube videos recently about costumes from superhero movies I was thinking about which ones I liked best, and found that I had an unexpectedly easy time picking a top 5, though no doubt within 30 seconds of posting this I'll be mentally screaming "oh, how could I have forgotten about that one?" So, without further ado, here are my picks:

5. Batman (1989)
This was a favourite of mine since seeing the movie when first released. Yeah, the moulded muscles are a bit much, and it's totally impractical for the actor to move around in, but to me this is just the perfect look for the character, no frills, no nipples, just style.

4. Spider-Gwen (Spider-man: Into the Spiderverse)
I limited myself to only one Spider-costume, and it was either this or Miles's suit from the same movie. As with that one, this takes the basic Spider-suit and adapts it perfectly to the person wearing it. The hood is a great touch.

3. Thor (Thor: Ragnarok)
This is my "We barely knew ye" category. Thor's involuntary makeover for Ragnarok was a great new look for the character that was sadly lost by the second act of Endgame. Honourable mention goes to Steve's covert-ops suit from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

2. Superman (1978)
Hard to do this list without Superman, and I've always preferred his look in the Christopher Reeve movies. Part of that may be that he wears it so naturally and effortlessly, flying or walking. No weird materials, no built-in padding or plating. This one is the closest to actually being quite simply a costume - Superman doesn't need armour, he is armour.

1. Blade (1998)
And then there's blending style and functionality like only the 90s can. Everything about this is practicality - body armour, holsters, gadgets, reloads - and yet it's packaged into such a perfect look that tells you practically everything you need to know about the character. And of course, Wesley Snipes pulls it off perfectly (if only Google would find a decent image of the whole ensemble).

What are your favourites? What did I miss, which ones did I get tragically wrong?

For many of the same logic points for the Christopher Reeve Superman outfit, the Adam West Batman outfit.
The Green Lantern movie outfit.
Captain Marvel's outfit.
I liked the Stark Industries Spiderman outfit for the cool factor but Spiderman is more about doing Spidy things instead of high tech cool things so most of the Spiderman outfits work for me.
the later Iron Man suits.

There have been so many good variants on Iron Man’s suits over the character’s history that I could probably pick 5 and be done.

Keaton’s nearly all-black Batman is probably my favorite iteration of that character’s visuals. Likewise, I loved Spider-Man’s all black costume…until they revealed it to be a symbiote.

Wildfire from the Legion of Super Heroes is a long time fave. Adam Warlock was another oldie but goodie.

Even though it’s a holdover from pulp sci-fi aesthetics, I’ve always liked Adam Strange’s look.

The Flash was another one I think they got right from early on.

Problematically, I’m sitting here struggling to think of a single female super whose costume I genuinely liked. I can think of several I’d consider classic in some way, but not one that just sings to me. And unfortunately, WAY to many are variations on similar or related male heroes.

Spidergwen is 100% the best Spiderman look. Good call. Though most Spiderman costumes are pretty good.

I'm a big fan of Catwoman's many looks, and I think the best iteration is the Darwyn Cooke version:

Dr. Doom! I prefer the Buscema version, but they're all pretty great. So weird that the films kept running away from it.

And the Matt Fraction Haawkeye is pretty perfect:

And then there's John Byrne's Phoenix (torn between this and his Dark Phoenix):

I liked Scarlet Witch's trenchcoat
Black Panther Suits
January Jones as Emma Frost
Rebecca Romjins Mystique
Falcons original suit actually looking like functional military tech (before it got the red wing blades)
