Your Trek?

I grew up a Star Trek fan. It took until about TNG season 3 for that to finally wear off. I liked movies 1, 2, and 4.. and not so much after that.

The Original Series made me a fan, and saw Star Treks I - VI + Generations, First Contact, and Insurrection in the theater. Then I became disillusioned with the franchise and have only recently begun to have an appreciation for Deep Space Nine. I was never able to get into it when it was being broadcast...the same with Voyager and Enterprise.

I can still remember my first glimpse of Star Trek. The local TV station was rerunning TOS after school, and I came in halfway through "Miri" -- I can remember the camera shot through a dirty window at some tall guy in a blue shirt who walks towards the camera. I was all of 6 or 7 at the time... Mom came in and said, "Oh my god, you've discovered Star Trek." with a tone that said I'd done something wrong.

Haven't looked back since.

I like the first 4 movies. The Motion Picture is long and slow-moving, but it still preserves the spirit of the show ("What the heck is this? Will it kill me?"). I still think the refit Enterprise is the best-looking ship in the whole franchise. It just looks fast.

I love 2, 4, and 6. I'm not so hot on First Contact (Borg: you will be disinterested....), but Insurrection made me LMAO.

I haven't seen much of Enterprise, but what I've seen I liked.

Not a movie, but the Original Series itself, although in reruns.

Wrath of Khan and First Contact are my favorite movies. Nothing really needs to be said about Khan besides that it's the best. First Contact is fun in its own way, and while I don't really care about the Borg, the ending where the Vulcans make first contact is one the classic Trek moments, and makes the whole movie worth it. Undiscovered Country was a good Trek film, but I've never really enjoyed it.

I don't understand the V hate. Yes, it's silly, it's stupid, but I see it as a film to be laughed at. Generations was worse, because they killed Kirk and destroyed the Enterprise. Insurraction didn't do it for me either, I thought the whole Planet of Youth storyline was one aimed at aging hippie Trekkies, and as a 20 something, it had no appeal to me whatsoever. :]

As for the series, I like the TOS, enjoyed parts of Enterprise, liked DS9, yawned my way through much of TNG (though TNG does have plenty of great eps), and trid to ignore Voyager as much as possible.

TOS re-runs some time in the 70s. I'm sure I've seen every TOS episode at least a dozen times. Of the movies, II is the ideal to which others are compared.

Yeah, that comes with watching TNG.

It's also because the special effects were none too good, and what's more, parts of the movie didn't make sense.

Well, wouldn't you want your heroes to die heroically, and not to die of old age? And the destruction of the Enterprise thing had to be done, since they were going for a new ship that was Anamorphic aspect ratio-friendly (I refer you to the "refit" of the 1701).

I watched TOS when I was a young kid. But I really got into it when it was rerun in the 70s when I was a teen ager. I went to my first Trek con in 1976. As for the The motion sickness( first movie) I was so psyched when it came out which just happened to be on my birthday.

Man I was disappointed it was slow and boring and not the Trek I knew and loved. Then came Kahn and fixed everything.

I eargly waited the next Generation and found that I just could not get into it. The characters were boring. They were all so damn perfect and came aross so smug. I did like First Contact it was a good movie.

I watched Voyager for the characters which I loved and kept hoping it would find its direction something it never did.

Enterprise was another major disappointed. I am a big Scott Backula fan and could not wait for the show to start. Again I really disliked so many of the characters espically the way they portrayed the female characters. I hated what they did with the Vulcans and how Bragga screwed with the timeline.

My favorite of all the Treks has to be DS9. It had compelling stories and characters who I found to be quite interesting. Of all the shows it had the best writing.

That's what what I would want. But the movie didn't deliver. Kirk dies from sliding down a cliff on broken metal stairway? I can't decide whether to giggle or yawn. He should have died alone on the bridge of a starship.
