Youre favorite style of Elf

I like them like the elves of the dark forest in "The Hobbit": joyous, not at all serious, somewhat pompous, and completely drunkous.

Because the elves of legend and aliens from ufos are very very similar. Or the same thing, really, just interpreted differently because of the viewpoint of the encounterer
Similar to the point where GURPS Technomancer (modern day, but with magic working and having been industrialized since WW2) replaced UFO/Grey legends with Sidhe legends. Instead of some people claiming to have been abducted by grey aliens to space ships, they claim to have been abducted by the fey and taken into elf hills.

My favorite elves are the Athasian ones: tall, nomadic scoundrels.

That's just awesome. I'd hate to run into him at night.

Well I don't like elves but if I have to choose a type to like I woulkd go for the Forsaken Elves from Scarred Lands. Their god is dead and the race can no longer breed true elves. They are slowly declining into decadance and immorality after having been a beacon for such virtues for 1000's of years.

I like the thin, idealized human elves, and the big-ears elves are fine unless they're like, night elf big.

I'm quite fond of s/Lash's elves: http://dungeondamage.keenspace.com/

EDIT: I was just thinking of art. Comes to concept, Tolkien's Eldar and the elves from Lords and Ladies and Johnathon Strange and Mr. Norrell r0XX0rz my b0XX0rz.

EDIT: I just used leet-speak when referring to Tolkien. I am filled with shame...

For a very cool take on the Elves=Greys motif, ceck out two books from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.
"Lords & Ladies", and "Wee Free Men" both have some interesting things to say about the similarities between the old taken by faeie stories, and the modern abducted by aliens stories.

I like the Grey Elves from my campaign. They are the keepers of knowledge, very stoic and serious. The only wizard I truly enjoyed playing (I'm primarily a kick-in-the-door fighter type) was a grey elf that was trying to find the secrets to lichdom not for any nefarious purpose, but to simply be able to live beyond his years an continue to learn even more spells and attain all the knowledge that he can. Sadly, his one time friend and King of the region saw his attempts as an abomination. They slew each other in an epic duel that saw to the end of the kingdom and peace.

Since I've been playing WoW, I'm starting to like the look and ideas behind Night Elves. Very cool.
