You're Top-10 Movies/Shows based on Games

A suffusion of yellow
So with Super Mario Galaxy and Fall Out 2 on the horizon I thought I'd get some recommendations
1 What are your Top 10 Movies/Shows based on Games
2 What games do you want to see turned into movies?

I'm guessing Silent Hill and Resident Evil are up there, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ended up better than expected, as did Detective Pokemon. Some of the animated Tekken movies have been okay too. The original Clue was a good Board game movie, cant think of any others.

Is it cheating to include DnD Honor Among Thieves?

D&D Honor Among Thieves would easily be my favorite, so I hope it's not cheating, then again TTRPGs do get into the slippery slope edge of what is "based on a game". Legend of Vox Machina is very much derived from their D&D actual play, but the storyline and (to a lesser extent) characters has been rewritten and tweaked, and the magic and abilities have been changed (or at least had their serial numbers filed off) and clearly it's on some sort of Ship of Theseus journey away from being based on a game at all anymore, and was always based on a particular playthrough of the game rather than the underlying game.

Yikes. Has there ever been a good one? Not that I can recall.

Oh, Honour Amongst Thieves. Fair enough, I was automatically thinking video games. So my top 10 is:

1. Honour Amongst Thieves

Now games based on movies--the king to this day is still Goldeneye!

Clue is pretty high on the list.

Are movies like Field of Dreams, A League of Their Own, and Sandlot movies based on baseball or just movies that have a lot of baseball in them? Brian's Song? Dodgeball?

How about Ready or Not, All Fun And Games, Ouija, Would You Rather, and Truth or Dare? The Lego Movie? Jumanji, Zathura, et. al? The Most Dangerous Game? Taskmaster? Jeopardy? Family Game Night? Various degrees of quality, obviously. But are they based on games?

Fallout TV show

Last D&D movie.

1st Mortal Kombat Movie 1995. Its not really any cheesier than other Kung fu movies. Need to watch the new ones.

Last Mario movie was fun enough.

the distinction would be Movies where the Game is/becomes the World-Setting as opposed to movies which focus on people in the world playing a game

Jumanji/Zathura and Minecraft are IN as they become the Setting in which the action takes place
but Field of Dreams, A League of Their Own, Rocky and Truth or Dare are out since the game is an artifact in the wider world.

Lego Movie and Barbie are OUT on the technicality that IRL they are Toys rather than games :)

The Most Dangerous Game is an interesting one to consider though - does the Hunt count as the setting?

Got it, thanks for explaining.

I'll have to think about a list based on that criteria. FWIW, I think The Most Dangerous game should count, but it's unlikely to make the top 10. The book is a lot better than the movie.

I wonder if if I have enough time to watch Twisted Metal and The Last of Us before I need to make my list...
