Zombies and Crooks (DM:Mal Malenkirk Judge: Covaithe )

Montroya watches as Jarel-Karn decapitates Rinch. The deva moves down the ladder, off the catwalk. He mutters, "Is it over? Is it finally over?" Standing over the body of the man, he prods him with his staff. The deva then suddenly leaps upon the man's bloody corpse, chewing on his severed neck like an animal. After a moment, the invoker rolls off him, his cheeks and mouth covered in blood. Wiping them off on his sleeve, he looks horrified at his actions. He drops his staff to his side, hugs his knees to his chest, and rocks back and forth on the floor. His teeth shatter as if shivering. "We should look for any valuables to claim, before the watch gets here."

"The honored servant of Apoli is distressed by a serious affliction," says One-Who-Waits smoothly. (It is not clear whether One-Who-Waits actually imputes Montroya's strange conduct to the progression of his disease or whether the shaman is simply trying to save the invoker some embarrassment.) "Forgive this one for asking his foolish questions when there are more urgent matters at hand. Many are suffering from this affliction and this one can only hope that there is some clue to be found here that might help this inexpert healer develop a cure." With that, he begins looking for an office or some such place where records might be kept.

[sblock=Montroya]I would recommend against claiming valuables in a government warehouse. It could be misinterpreted...[/sblock]

A balding dwarf pokes his head warily from the window of the office on the secondfloor.

-''So, you lads are done? Praise Vulkar, you bunch now how to put on a brawl! By the sound of it I would have guessed a bunch of ogres where intent on smashing every crates.''

He hustles down the ladder and shake warmly the hands of the heroes.

-''Thank you! Quite a motley crew, you are. Goliath, Genasi... hey, aren't you an accountant?'' he says, pointing at Andrec. ''Well, anyway, well done.''

Slowly, people arrive on the scene. At first, curious bystander mass near the door, gaping at the carnage inside. Soon, guards arrive and prevent anyone from entering. A captain of the guard interview you and once your role in these events has been clarified, things get out of hand. Rumors of your exploits spreads in the common as your exploits against the zombies capture the imagination of the coomon folk. Demands of interview from reporters abound* and eventually you receive an invitation from Gunter Brunt, the mayor, to be honored and rewarded as is befitting for heroes of Daunton.

[sblock=*]If you want to have fun and write the interview in the L4W newspaper, knock yourself out!

More tomorrow for XP calculation and reward.

For those interested, there will be an immediate but very short follow up for those interested in tying a few loose ends.

[sblock=ooc]Valuables on the baddies I meant. Then again, I guess in my diseased state , I had missed that this was gov't owned.[/sblock]

Montroya stands up, eventually coming to his senses as town enforcement comes around. He nervously gives an interview to a scribe. Afterward he seeks out those most reliable in combating Rinch and the allies.

"Rinch's cult was to bring a terrible being called The Ursurper back. By defeating this cult we have done Apoli's will. Apoli has given me some insight. A book I was shown many years ago may contain more information. I vaguely remember information related to The Ursurper contained in said tome. If you would help me seek the tome once more, perhaps we can stop further cults from infecting Daughton."

ooc: approved. Also note time gold: 43/30 * 63 = 90g for level 1, 43/30*89=128g for level 2 chars.

edit: Unless Mal plans to roll that into a forthcoming treasure award?

[sblock=OOC]Take not of Montroya's speech; Technically Zombies and Crooks is over but for those willing I have a bit more excitement planned.[/sblock]

The celebration is a grand affair. A mix of vain noble wishing to be seen with the heroes du jour, epicurian scions of wealth not wanting to miss this week's largest party and common people who got a special pass from the mayor due to the pressure from the adoring fans who wanted to see the heroes of Fisher Man's alley.

The mayor make a great speech, both boisterous and inspiring and the cheer rings through the hall for ten minutes.

[sblock=Everyone]Make a note on your character sheet that your PC are heroes in the Commons.

The fights in Fisherman's Alley and in front of Vena's Grace Hospital were very public affairs and the public approves greatly of that brand of heroism.

Technically, OWW only joined after those fights but the public wouldn't make the distinction.

In future adventures in the Commons you can point out to your DM that you have earned some notoriety in the area. They might decide to acknowledge that within their adventure. Don't make a fuss if they decide not to, it's their call![/sblock]

Finally, As the cheer dies down, the mayor steps toward Montroya.

-''Your faith in the Sund God has seen us through the night. The church of Apoli wants you to have the Rod of Dawn. Its name honor the persistance of the Sun; no matter how desperate the hour, it will always rise again.

The city for it parts offer you this enchanted gold chain, hoping it brings you serenity. The hospital offers you a set of potions that you should find beneficial.''

Next the mayor turns to Andrec.

-''I have heard some ugly rumors of previous employment with the city but as far as I am concerned, your chang of career was most fortuitous! We hear you fight boldly from the front, taking many risks to set up your partners in advantageous position. Well, merchants form Fisherman's Alley have pooled their ressources with ours aqnd we are proud to offer you this feather weight chainmail. Masterful craftmanship, you will barely feel it and able to withstand the most powerful attacks. We also offer you this sword to complement your skills.''

Then he adresses One-Who-Waits.

-''Another heroic deva! The gods knew what they were doing when they sent you to join the fight. We found this ancient totems in our waregouse. We hope it is of use to you.''

Finally he turns to Jarel-Karn.

-''You have been a faithful rampart, protecting your companions from the assaults of countless horrors. We give you this lightning sword as well as this armor that is attuned to the thuderstorm.

We also give you these gems, bought thanks to a fundraising effort by the grateful population of the city and of the Commons in particular.

All hail our heroes!''

[sblock=OOC]Of course, Tor, Mesa, Matlal and Molok are also mentioned IC...[/sblock]

[sblock=Montroya]
You have earned 1867 XP without treasure so far (I won't count the potion).

For level 1, it has been calculated that a PC should earn 756gp on average. 1068go for level 2.

867/1250= 69% of level 2

69% * 1068gp = 741 gp

741 + 756 = 1497 gp.

You need about 1497gp to be of an adequate power level.

''Rod of Dawn'' : Rod of Divinity +1 680gp
Amulet of Resolve +1 : 520gp
2 potions of healing, 2 potions resistance: 180gp
Gems: 117 gp
[/sblock]

[sblock=Andrec]
Same calculations; 1497 gp is the target

Agile Chainmail +1 1000gp
Challenge Seeking Longsword +1 360 gp
gems : 137 gp
[/sblock]

[sblock=OWW]
Using the same technique, OWW should have 785gp

Watchful Totem +1 680
gems: 105
[/sblock]

[sblock=Jarel]Same technique, Jarel should get 1754gp

Genasi soul hide armor +1 (Promise of Storm) 840gp
Lighnting longsword +1 1000gp
No gems

if you stick with the rest of the adventure, I will probably dock 86gp from your next reward.

One-Who-Waits says little to the reporters, portraying himself as a clueless blunderer who stumbled into the situation and didn't actually do very much to help. He also expresses concern for those still afflicted with the disease, which probably makes for some rather unexciting copy. He declares himself unworthy of the gift presented by the mayor, but accepts it humbly.

[sblock=ooc]Can I reskin the totem as an embroidered ball?[/sblock]

Eyes wide and cheeks pink, Andrec's clearly not comfortable in front of a large crowd. He mumbles his thanks and attempts to carry everything the Mayor hands him. He manages to do so without dropping anything, though it's a close call when he bows to the mayor at the ends of his small speach to Andrec.

Once the crowd's attention is no longer on him, Andrec withdraws to a side space and attempts to sort himself out. Stuffing his old armor into his pack and slinging his original sword under the pack, Andrec's glad for the physical training he got as a youth, because carrying a sencond suit of chainmail in your backpack is no mean feat. Putting away the money the Mayor awarded, he notices a foreign bulge in one of the pouches. Upon investigation he discovers the potion given him at the hospital "huh. Forgot about that, coulda been handy. Oh well." Putting on the new armor and strapping the magical sword to his belt, Andrec returns to the crowd to address the other adventurers just as the mayor finishes.

[sblock=potion]Forgot about that. I'm adding it to my sheet, if that's okay.[/sblock]
[sblock=ooc]Magic armor? Are you trying to tell me something? Lol.
"Ugly Rumours?" Andrec likes office work.
I propose the title "Faithful Rampart" be added to Jarel-Karn's name as a suffix, that line was awesome.[/sblock]
[sblock=disease]I'm posting here for ease of reference the disease that is still affecting Andrec. He may find himself in another adventure soon, so I want that info easily located in case it's needed.

[sblock=Mal]I had a lot of fun in this adventure. Let me know if you run another game in the future ok?[/sblock]
[sblock=Everybody]That was alot of fun! It seems Andrec's getting caught up in Dauntonian adventures again, rather than the period of lying low he was after. That's okay by me! Feel free to have your characters inquire after him anytime![/sblock]

In a low voice so the crowd won't overhear, Andrec calls his companions together in a circle. "Do we have the note that we found on the thief? Rinch was looking for something, and if he was close, someone else could find it."
