[sblock=OOC/Judge]Yeah, I knew that was going to come up.

There was a discussion about it recently on wizards rules forum. (The discussion continues a bit past that first post, interleaved with other stuff.)

I think I agree with the position that the follow on effect is not an attack, and since the vulnerability is to "close or area attacks" (and the resistance is to "melee or ranged attacks"), it doesn't come in to play no matter what the keyword is, that damage doesn't trigger either the resistance or the vulnerability.

The same thing would be true with, for example, Cleave - the main damage would be halved, but the follow-on would just be straight damage.

(If it were treated as an attack, then I think the strict raw would be that the power has the melee keyword, the follow on effect is not saying to make a second attack, and the close blast just specifies a range; so the damage would trigger the resistance and be halved... which seems kind of dumb and not well in keeping with the fluff, but that's what it would be.)

I also agree that the power is poorly written. PP seems to have a lot of those (e.g, Fire Hawk).

But what say you, Sir Judge?

PS - Don't worry, you do have a controller with you! I believe a couple of you also have dailies that do close bursts or blasts. I'm not going to tell you that you should use your dailies. I will tell you that, at least at this point in the adventure, you shouldn't worry about saving every single last one of your dailies for some uber-difficult final encounter. (Don't just squander them, of course. ;))

OOC: looks Kaeysari will need to be healed before her turn AND take second wind on her turn to extricate herself. Papolstaanas should stay with the snakes as he gets an extra saving throw each round, but he'll need AOEers to actually kill them... So maybe Kaeysari and Azryah can try to save Krassus if Kaeysari is in any condition to do anything.

I'm not clear on where the snakes actually are. P12 and P14?

[sblock=Howl]Full amount, or full amount + 10 from the vulnerability? (I think full amount w/o the vulnerability, but no problem if you rule the other way.)[/sblock]
[sblock=Snake positions]Yes, P12 and P14. The position of everyone is listed with their entries in the status block. <checking if I screwed up the snakes...>

Yep, I missed updating one in the status block, or maybe had a typo.

Sorry again for lack of map.[/sblock]

[sblock=plan for people to poke holes in]1) Jynxx heals Kaeysari, perhaps viciously mocks a swarm (heh!)

2) Papolstaanas moves to Q13, marks swarms. Tries to slow the one on the left, then shifts to Q14 to pin the one on the right against the hut.

3) Kaeysari takes damage, second winds, and then moves away. Hopefully defense boost + marks + maybe Jynxx's mockery/prescient interrupt if necessary can stop her from getting hit again.

4) Cillani AOEs the snakes. Maybe Chaku does as well (but he'll get beaten up doing it).[/sblock]

[sblock=Comments on Plan]Seems OK to me. Getting Kaeysari outta the middle there is key. Cillani's AoE isn't party friendly, so if Papol and Chaku were in q11/p11 we could still hit 1, and she could AoE the 2 swarms without collateral damage, only problem there is one swarm wouldn't be marked... I'm just thinking with the limited healing our bard can do, any friendly fire is bad. To bad Cillani can't target o13 and solve that issue right quick.

Outside of saving Krassus, I think dealing with the swarms is paramount to limitting the incoming damage since the aura will do something on everyones turn, and the snipers only act on their turn.

So order would be Jynxx, Papol, Kaeysari, then Cillani, with Chaku and Az doing their thing as needed?[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Hmm. Papolstaanas could shift back to row R after marking and attacking. So the sequence is move to Q13, then mark both (free action), weight of earth on one (standard), then shift to R13(minor). Both swarms end up marked but only one will be slowed (assuming he hits). There would be enough space for Cillani to attack both with no damage to friendlies.[/sblock]

[sblock=Tactics]Sounds good to me, I'm just waiting on the ruling before I post. Don't want the fight to get too bogged down talking about tactics for days :) [/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Sounds like a reasonable plan to me. If Azryah can't get to Krassus without getting knocked about, she might want to Radiant Vengance one of the slingers instead.

I know defenders are supposed to soak up attacks, but being caught in the aura of two seperate swarms is taking things a bit too far.

Oh, and as a personal note, I'd like to say "ouch"[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]I don't think sending Az around the other side on her own will be good. The torturor could have pals and she'd be in a worse situation than Kaeysari is now. Maybe ready an action to zap the slinger on the roof when he pokes his head up again?[/sblock]
