    Fighting a God, Divine Strategies

One thing you may want to play with: Vecna is not just a god of magic, he's also a god of secrets. If any of the PCs have anything hidden in their pasts, any adventures where they maybe hit the wrong target or screwed up somewhere this is where it comes back to bite them.

    Dammnation

Here are a few more possible reasons: 1. The evil gods lie like a rug. They whisper all sorts of rewards and say that all the rumors about going to the hot hurty place after you die is just propaganda spread by the jealous goody two-shoes gods. 2. Necessity. Much like the sailor example...

All Your Lands Are Belong to Us

Could be a fun campaign. Here's a few possible odds and ends you can use: Perhaps they encounter one of the few surviving royals and/or leaders? They have to protect the young heir long enough for a larger resistance group to form around him or her. Provides a nice reason for the group to...

What should guard this bad guy's lair?

You could always place a couple of Otyughs down there. They can be trained as gaurdian monsters and they're very easy to feed..(the ruler can just dump all the refuse down there)

    Sewer monsters?

If you want some encounters with a bit more flavor try these: Not only could you find criminals down there but the sewers would be a perfect spot for a hidden shrine or temple to a forbidden god. Especially the disgusting ones. Maybe the PCs somehow stumble in just as they're about to...

Tell me of the Amazon Kindle

I had a friend use a Kindle at one of my recent games to hold the gaming PDFs. It was very neat and he liked it. The only problem was that it didn't reproduce the tables very well. They came through rather disjointed. So for text and such works great. For gaming books it works okay...

    Gnolls, gnolls, glorious gnolls

Gnolls can be a lot of fun. There's a few things to remember about them: They usually work with hyenas and dire hyenas. They're slavers, although they treat the slaves poorly and tend to eat them. This is good if you ever end up with a TPK and don't want to start over. They'll happily...

Who are your favorite Demon Lords?

I've had a lot of fun with Yeenoghu in my campaigns. Not only is he a big nasty demon lord but he has worshipers all over the prime material plane. Gnoll clerics and flind warlocks never get old. :)

    Trap an Egyptian-Style Pyramid

One trap I used: Basic "rains acid down on the party" trap, but the acid slides down slots in the floor into a soft substance. This substance (never bothered to name it) dissolves into poisonous gas when it reacts with the acid. Wham..acid then poison cloud trap. Also nice as it's purely a...

Why do players want to play a large race?

As noted before big creatures in the "dumb but strong" style is in no way original but it can be an awful lot of fun. Additionaly they can be very useful in the party and the player may like getting the accolades. (especially if he's the only brick in the group)

Good Feat Choices For A Cleric

If there's a lot of undead in the campaign you definately want Extra Turning. I rather like Silent Spell, a huge number of the core cleric spells require verbal so magical silence becomes a serious problem...

Help me with my Eberron Mcguffin / background - tie to Giant/Quori war & warforged

Here's a few ideas: The crown is actually the main control piece to the big bad Giant magic. If used in the right spot it could do some serious damage and/or affect the planes. The trick is that it takes time for the crown to adjust to it's wearer and abilities slowly build up from there...

How often does Grappling happen in your game?

My group never uses Grapple unless we have to (generally if we have to stop a charmed npc or something). Becuase we never use it nobody really knows the rules. When it is used the game stops while we look up said rules and figure them out (generally twice..once for the grapple and once for...

Will this Lead to a TPK? [updated 3/16]

Sounds like it would be a very tough fight. There are a couple of things you could do to even the odds: 1. give the party a magical item that will negate the dragon's flight ability. ("Look! A wand of wing entrapment, how lucky!" or something...) Make sure the party knows it's a 1-use item...

Countdown to the Realms: Magic in the Forgotten Realms

Aw man...Maztica and the Old Empires were two of my favorite spots in the setting. Oh well, just means that if/when I start up a 4E FR campaign I just slap Maztica back into the setting. Cuz it's my campaign and I can do that. :)

    Simple yet vital question

One thing you may want to consider is that the while the PCs are low-level they're nobodies. They can go "under the radar" so to speak to find out information the big guys can't handle. This is especially good if you have competing political entities in your world..Kingdom A might be a little...

    My player is squishing everything.

Piratecat beat me to it but I was going to suggest taking into account the surface material on the squish attacks. If it's a frozen river both he and his target probably went into the water. Or broke the bridge. Or slammed through the floor and are now in the basement. Aside from extra...

    Dragon 361 Editorial

It sounds like the Dragon folks are taking a lot of slings and arrows right now, and I feel really bad adding to that but this part isn't sitting right with me: "You won't see much of a change in the free content (yes, I felt compelled to point out that we're dropping a hefty dime to get this...

So why don't reviews work? (as a marketing tool)

I think another issue is how many enquiries the companies received. I remember a pro (I forgot exactly whom at this point) mentioned on his blog about one of the bigger cons he went too. He mentioned how many people came up saying that they were reviewers in one form or another and that if he...

Looking back on 3.x-era d20 products: which kinds were most useful?

I was very happy with Call of Duty (the paladin book by Chain Mail Bikini Games) when if first came out, and it still holds up pretty well today. There are a couple of game lines that I've found both fun and useful to mine ideas from: Iron Kingdoms, Midnight, Spycraft, Ravenloft (sword and...
