Sagiro's Story Hour Returns (new thread started on 5/18/08)

Speaking as the player who was worried-- I just assumed they were advanced, elite, etc, null shadows. ;) I think a lot of the problem was that when you have two unique opponents-- one a long running thorn in our side, and the other a vampire former PC-- plus a bunch of identical guys, it's...

    EnWorlders at Origins?

Keeper of Secrets, I'm signed up to play in "The Golden Man" on Saturday. It'll be my first CoC game. I can't wait! I'll probably show up at the dinner on Sat, with 1d4-1 friends.

I'll be there. That makes 3...

    DeathWatch: Why is it evil?

I agree as well. There's no reason it needs to be that way. In my homebrew campaign world, I've left the spell alone, but included a variant death domain for non-evil clerics. The domain's granted ability, is similar to deathwatch, except that it's a divination spell-like ability and not...

    Has anyone been eaten yet?

What's the best direct-damage spell to use against a foe with uber saving throws?

Scorching Ray (2nd level) will do 12d6 points of fire damage, with no save, at 11th caster level and above. Maximized and Empowered (a 7th level slot), it does an average of 93 points of damage, assuming the rays hit. EDIT: Whoops, not fast enough on that one.

    none@none.com

Meanwhile, the poor person who really does have that address gets all the bounces. (Not that he or she doesn't already get a boatload of junk email from people signing up for other stuff with that address, I'm sure.) Tsk. <pedantic> If anyone cares, the canonical way to construct a...

Eadric et. al. (The Paladin and his Friends).

I don't have the ELH at the moment, but I believe that the dice of backlash damaged allowed are capped at twice the caster's level. Plus, they'd still have to win initiative.

[Meta]Drop Down Menus on News Site

I'm seeing some issues with text being too wide, but I'm using an obsolete version of Mozilla Firebird, so if it looks all right on the more recent builds, it's probably not a problem. (Screenshot attached.) (edited for typo.)

    I need a potion name

I'd serve it in a Klein Bottle, preferably the Top Mouth Erlenmeyer Flask version. I'd label it with a manilla paper tag on a string, written in faded blue ink: "Dr. So-and-So's Effective Elixer of Expedited Effervescent Enhancement. (Patent Pending)" Added in pencil, below: "Batch #9b". -Ryan

Challenging my high-lvl group (NPCs and monsters; my players shouldn't read this!)

Well, there's certainly room for that too: Make the Defenders deal with obnoxious caterers and the like. I think that portraying devils in a lighthearted way is likely to compromise the seriousness of the overall game. Besides, the DoD are perfectly capable of making their own levity, even in...

Challenging my high-lvl group (NPCs and monsters; my players shouldn't read this!)

Well, she could turn out to be a really nice devil, not really into the whole "evil" thing much. Heck, maybe that's why her family's trying to marry her to Agar-- they don't want anything from him, they just want to be rid of her! ;) Ok, that's probably a little on the silly side.

Challenging my high-lvl group (NPCs and monsters; my players shouldn't read this!)

Particularly if you make it really long, and only let the players see it moments before Agar's to be wed.

    TrapBuilder - new spreadsheet

I've put together a small spreadsheet (MS Excel 2000) to automate some of the calculations involved in constructing mechanical and magical device traps, based on the new 3.5 rules. You make some selections from dropdown boxes, check a few boxes, fill in a few fields, and it spits out a...

    How does LA work?

Because ECL and CR are two different things. Challenge Rating is a measure of how difficult a creature is for the player characters to defeat. Effective Character Level tells you how useful a creature is as a player character. The major difference is that the PCs are expected to win most or...

    How does LA work?

Pax is right. To reiterate, Character Level = Racial HD + Class Levels ECL = Racial HD + Class Levels + Level Adjustment To remember what you use each one for, remember the "3E" rule: ECL is for: Experience Points Expected Equipment value Eligibility for Epic feats Actual character...

    How does LA work?

Not quite. From the SRD, under "Monsters as Races": Consequently, the Minotaur Bbn1 has already gotten his first increase with his fourth racial hit die (and it's already factored into his racial ability scores/adjustments). He'll get his second with his second level of barbarian, which will...

Eadric et. al. (The Paladin and his Friends).

Well, heck, the PCs have done plenty of planar binding and whacking combos already. Maybe they should work out a way to get some magical mojo from it. They could call it Not-So-Much-Dark-Because-Demons-Are-Evil-Anyway- But-Not-Really-"Bright"-Either-Because-They're-Doing-...
