S3: The Scythe of Seto (Bront Judging)[Completed]

Eusebius'spells, and natural rest, soon restore the heroes strength.

They find in the wagon about a dozen locked chests and boxes. All are marked "Chet Rundrin. Magic Emporium, Havertown." The corpses don't seem to have a key that would fit the locks. The corpses have only mundane equipment of little value.

Havertown is the next major town to the South, which the adventurers will be passing through anyway.

"May their souls find a good path on the never ending journey." Ogrin says of the dead.

As they investigate the wagons, Ogrin scratches his bearded chin, as he always does when he's thinking. "Had we been on the sea, I'd said this was ours by rite of salvage... but on land, there are different customs. We should take these items to the wizard in question. He's likely to pay a handsome sum for 'em; after all, that's what the lasses were doing. Then we can split the money..." Ogrin sees Eusebius face darken somewhat and continues "...evenly with any surviving kin they might have."

"Of course, we really should investigate what's in those crates. Wouldn't want to accidentally try passing some arcane contraband through the town gates, now, would we? Can lead to tricky situations, that. Or so I've 'eard."

OOC: Ogrin submitted for level 6 approval.

Eusebius nods thoughtfully at Ogrin's words.

"It is a good thought to share the reward with any kin which our fellow-travellers may have - although we cannot, at the moment, spare the time to search them out. I do not agree, however, that we ought to open the crates. Surely the wizard will be less than pleased to see his cargo tampered with."

He turns away, then turns back to add, "Besides, you can be sure that Master Rundrin will have arranged some 'special protection' for his goods. Given the hostile forces already arrayed against us, I'd say it's better to be safe than sorry in this regard."

Ogrin does notice that there are wax seals over the locks to the chests. If they were opened, it would be very difficult to disguise it.

"I care little of about pleasing or displeasing wizards." says Ogrin indifferently, but he stays away from the crates and chests...

...for the moment.

Once the bodies are buried, Eusebius will add his prayers to Rasz's, then encourage the group to set out as soon as possible. He, himself, will stay afoot, preferring the flexibility it gives him, and confident that he can match the normal pace of the wagon and horses with ease.

"Magic Emporium, eh? Let me see." Beamer casts detect magic over the crates to see if he can make out anything about their contents.

OOC: spellcraft +7

Beamer doesn't detect any magic in the chests.

Traveling onwards, the group is able to reach Havertown without further incident. They can find a place for the night & are able to locate the Magic Emporium after asking around a bit.

The group brings in the chests, and Chet Rundrin is willing to pay 3000 gps for their delivery. Rundrin does know the dead traders, and can direct the group to their survivors, if the party is interested in sharing the gain. They also have two horses and a wagon.

The group can then make additional purchases if they wish getting on the road South again.

"I suggest that the 3000 gp be divided eight ways. We each get a share, the traders' families get a share each, and the three guards' families get a share between them. That's 375 gp per share. The wagon and horses obviously belong to the traders, so we should leave them with their families."
