Once she's finished patching herself up, Azryah sits statue still in the corner, careful not even to blink as she just watches and listens to the scene unfolding. She thinks about stepping in, while people are getting accusatory or threatening violence, apparently ineffectively, but thinks better of it. Although things seem a bit awkward, she doesn't yet feel she has anything evocative to say. She is very interested to see what Krassus has to say about, and is careful to note his reaction to, Papolstaanas's mention of the other buyer.

Chaku's improvised game of pop-the-poisoned-zocalti-pod quickly achieves results at the tree to the north east of the main hut. Under his barrage, the pods fall and release their gas, which dissipates harmlessly after a minute or so. None of the other trees seem to have been trapped, but the barbarian amuses himself by continuing to peg the pods with small stones.

Meanwhile, in the hut, Krassus listens to Papolstaanas' comments with a growing look of bafflement. He seems about to respond at several points, but as the kobold plows on obliviously, he waits. When Papolstaanas finally winds down, Krassus sighs.

"Okay, now I think I really get it - why Hedra sent you, I mean. She wanted you to make sure I delivered the beans, strong-arming me if necessary, eh?" He considers this. "Well, I'm still grateful for your timely arrival, no matter what Hedra was up to.

So she told you I was going to sell the beans behind her back, did she? I don't suppose she told you that about a month ago she decided she didn't want the damn beans, and told me to look for other revenue opportunities - 'find some sucker to dump 'em on', I believe were her exact words. Left that out, did she? Then after I do find another buyer, she sends word that she's changed her mind, now she does want them again?"

He laughs. "I'm happy to tell you about the other buyer," he says. "I didn't say anything about him because he doesn't have anything to do with all this - " he waves his hands in a circle - "and because, well, you didn't ask until now. The other buyer is a gentleman from my homeland, a very prominent citizen. He is a renowned chef whose dishes are popular the length and breadth of the Imperium. He has cooked for the Emperor himself on more than one occasion. He even provided the food for the wedding of the Second Imperial Princess, which was widely regarded as the social event of the last decade. So I think you can see, a man such as he would have had nothing to do with the attack of these savages."

As Krassus talks about this chef, he grows more and more animated. It is clear that his high opinion of the man is heartfelt. "So as I was trying to tell Hedra, if Chef Balsamae were to make a new zocalti dish, there is a high chance it would become popular in the Imperium. Perhaps extremely popular. The Imperium is a market which dwarfs Daunton and all these piddly little isles. As the supplier of zocalti to that market, the prospects for expansion and profit are practically limitless!" He smacks a fist into a palm once again. He's looking up and away, as if seeing a future full of success and gold stretching out in the corner of the hut.

[sblock=ooc]Just checking in, is talking to Krassus fun for you all? I like to have conversations with NPCs where you have to ask the right questions and/or make some skill checks, rather than simply dumping all the information on you at once. But maybe this could drag a bit in the PbP format... also I imagine it could be frustrating for the PCs without good social skills, which is basically all of you except Jynxx. :) But you're doing some great roleplaying, which I'm enjoying very much.

Anyway, we're probably pretty close to moving on now anyway, but please let me know if you're getting antsy at any point. :)[/sblock]

I'm ready to move on, but I also think we should wait and let Jynxx have one more shot at Krassus for an Insight/Diplomacy combo. It would be poor form for us to fly past any social skill checks while he's away for a day.

Also, we should decide what "moving on" is. I vote track bad guys #1, Escort Krassus #2, with find the deserter Jaronel #3. If it were a different time of day, Chaku would be more apt to help Krassus, but with a 2hr hike each way, it'll be a little past 6pm when we get back, and tracking at dusk/night will be much harder.

[sblock=OOC] Ok Charm ramble time. I'm all for rp with out rolls since that's what I'm used to and the rolls tend to get me confused. heh I'm not even gonna roll perception this time for no other reason then I'm lazy right now lol. I think waiting for Only seems like a good idea, I'm a bit worried to leave Krauss unattended, I'd like to escort him to people we trust to watch over him and then go after the raiding party. As for Cillani's manifestation I'm going to leave her in fire since the possibility of combat is high... I think that was all I was gonna say... heh Oh by the way I'm SO going to try and get a reason for Cilla to nickname Chaku, Teddybear, I laughed so hard when ready that :D [/sblock]

Cillani laughed in merriment at the scene she had managed to start, but realized that she was not going to be helpful in the information gathering. She moved as to follow Chaku outside but paused in the doorway to watch him while keeping an ear out for what the others decided to do about Krauss. she'd only been with the group for a short time she was already starting to see connections forming and she'd be very sadden the day they all went their separate ways. turning back to the conversation inside she rolled her eyes but kept her silence.

[sblock=RP and rolls]Just a note, the way I run scenes like this, good rolls on social skills can help you. But even with a bad roll (or no roll), what you have your character do or say can still move things along. Very rarely will a bad roll hurt you.

For example, had Chaku gotten a better roll on his intimidate check, he might have gotten Krassus to say more than he did. But even with the low roll, he did still get Krassus to reveal something new. Also Papolstaanas, with his questions about the other buyer, got a lot more information despite his low checks. What he asked about was more important than the checks.

So don't let low skill bonuses or fear of low checks hold you back. :)[/sblock]

Krassus wipes sweat from the back of his neck and looks sidelong at Azryah. The deva's silent, steady stare seems to have unnerved him a bit. "It's hot in here. I need some air," he says. He walks out of the hut and sits down just outside, trying to catch a little shade from the building.

The Imperial's face turns purple. "What? Are you calling me a liar? Do you think I had something to do with this, this massacre? That's preposterous! They wanted me dead - you saw that with your own eyes!" He looks towards Kaesari for support.

Jynxx smiles disarmly, "Forgive my somewhat impulsive sister. She can mean one thing and say another, but then again who among us cannot? I have been guilty of such crudeness of the tongue before, and I assure you she meant no disrespect.

That said my brother, please continue with your story. I would indeed like to hear the parts that were seemingly left out, even if they were deemed details too minor for you, they may make the difference in stragety to us."

[sblock=group, told 1 at a time]
"I have no doubt we can track this group. We do need to discover what guilt lies on this man, but without making him feel afraid."[/sblock]

"I fear you blame yourself when little to no guilt rests on your shoulders. Be at rest though friend, we are not here to punish or scold; nor to judge. I simply wish to accomplish my task and live to tell the tale as I am quite fond of stories."

"We will not place blame on you, nor will I tell Hedra of any misdoing on your part. I do need you to complete your tale. As I said earlier, I do NOT wish any of my party to die. I do not wish you to have the burden of any of our harm on your soul. As the priests from my lands say, confession is the only way to be truly free." Jynxx lets the group listen to the mental broadcast, even though it is clearly directed to Krasseus.

[sblock=question]

Do I need another diplomacy check?[/sblock]

Jynxx shakes his head at Krasseus, "I know you have more of the zocalti. I know you have more to tell, but are ashamed." Jynxx taps his temple, "I can speak to your mind remember? Do you think my ability is limited to simple two-way conversation? No my friend, I can hear your thoughts and emotions. Please my friend, for all of our sakes, continue your story and leave nothing out."
