sry Candide
"He has sandy blonde hair and brown eyes, and was about your height, sir. One thing I remember, because I dislike it, was that he carried a bag of pistachio nuts. When he ate one he put the whole thing in his mouth and spit the shell back into his hand. Who does such a thing?"
The landlady leaves you alone as you begin your search. Trask searches halfheartedly, his mind on something seemingly just beyond his consciousness.
The contents of Dowling's apartment are typical for what you expect a young aspiring actress to have. There are no photos of her with any men, but several with her and an assortment of female friends. In a box in her closet is a Land Camera.
Garces lifts the top of a rolltop desk and finds a stack of resumes. Oddly, the name on top of each one is Marilyn Monroe. Looking more closely, the acting credits are all movies with Monroe in them: Monkey Business, We're Not Married!, Don't Bother to Knock.... The address is Tularosa drive, however, and a stack of publicity photos beneath the resumes are Dowling's alone.
Curious, Garces looks for other things. He finds no journal, but uncovers a stack of Diner's Club receipts in a cabinet - everything from October and later is abruptly signed "Marilyn Monroe" in what appears to be Dowling's handwriting.
"What do you make of this, Trask?" Garces shows his new partner the resumes and receipts. The Englishman takes handfuls of them in each hand, looking from one to another.
"That's It!" He drops them suddenly, scattering them on the formica kitchen table. "Excuse me a moment, Agent Garces."
Without any explanation Trask runs out the door. Garces watches him cross the street and enter a small souvineir shop. In moments he returns with a folded paper in his hand.
"I believe the police report said Woodruff Avenue in Westwood...now I think I realize why it sounded familiar." Trask opens what Garces now sees is a map to the stars' homes. After reaching whatever he was looking for, he looks up. "Ah yes, 347. Would you care to guess which up-and-coming luminary of the silver screen lives there?"
Trask catches Ricky's sideways look at his expression.
"What?"
