I don't "get" Firefly ... but I'm not really sure that counts as "popular" outside of a comparatively small set.

Metallica, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Heavy Metal in general -- there is very little of it that enjoy at all.

NASCAR and organized sports -- nope, don't get it.

OTOH, I still like some old Neil Diamond music... Shiloh, for all of its over-sentimentalism, remains on my playlist...

And in real taste ... I love tater tots with tartar sauce... ;)

I own every episode of Gilligan's Island on dvd. Oh yeah, baby. bonk-THUD-"GilliGANNNNN!"
Please tell me you've designed one of your legendary D&D campaigns around this. I can even see it now. The professor has all sorts of magic item creation feats, but is a specialist with prohibitted school: Conjuration.

Things I only made myself read because there was a big-budget movie coming out
Lord of the Rings (which was worth it; if skip of the poetry and fast-forward to Rivendell)
Watchmen (and I can't see any way a movie I'd enjoy would come out of, and so won't be watching it unless it shows up on a $.01 pay-per-view day or something)

I will continue to insist that book 7 of The Wheel of Time was, in fact, one of the best in the series... and have no regrets on giving up on A Song and Ice and Fire after book 2.

I am going through the Wheel of Time series now. I am on Book 8 and I like it so far. One thing I will say, and this may be just me, is how the books feel sort of drab and dull, like everything is covered by a gray film. That could just be because of all the politicking, which is not my favorite thing to read about. I like the parts that have to do with Channeling or adventurous type stuff like when Mat when to visit the Aelfinn and Eelfinn.

Wait, this was supposed to be about thing I like or dislike that most other people do not like or dislike. Well, I do hear a lot of criticism about the WoT books.:hmm:

I hate Buffy, and I don't get why it's such a cult in the USA (in this kind of community, at least).

In a similar vein, the only Joss Whedon show I've seen and really liked was Firefly, though I like the episode he did of The Office. I just don't get the Whedon fandom.

U2, Coldplay, Oasis, and many other pop/rock bands' appeal is completely beyond me. I'll admit to knowing and enjoying some U2 songs, but there is so much dross to sift through these days. I just stick with my ipod and torrents.

Lord of the Rings, the books, bored me a great deal. As did Dune.
