The dragon parries to it's cost with Vimak the halberd braking through the tail defense the dragon was using to keep him back. Kamotz was not quite so lucky overextending to take an attack of opportunity left him open for a return strike from the dragons tail.

The dragon looks cut and worn, it's scales chipped and broken from the never ceasing bombardment of force energy. It stands still weathering the everlasting tirade of the heroes strikes. It watches with interest as the acid continues to burn into Kamotz and Lenard. It's almost snakey eyes dart from each of you to each other. The cloud of darkness has fallen. It's clear even to you unsure of dragon face symbols that it is smirking..

It's eyes are drawn to the shifter lying next to him. "You insect.. are about to find out why only a madman challanges the greatest creatures in the realms!" It flourishes it's claws, bravely Kamotz bashes it's first strike away with his shield. But the dragon brings his second claw firmly down on top of the shield crushing Kamotz with his own shield knocking him for the second time in so many seconds into unconciousness.

A rather large crimson puddle has formed around the shifter, what with being torn asunder once, lacerated and crushed to a pulp an instant later. Bent armor takes on new edges, the shield, once protecting Kamotz, now seems fused to the paladins plate armor.

That wouldn't be so concerning, if Kamotz' armor wasn't still full of acidic sludge. The caustic slime eats the shifters flesh as fast as it can knit itself back together again. Leaving several gaping wounds to bleed out, and almost no attention paid to his poor splintered bones.

Luckily for Kamotz, he was unconscious for all this. Otherwise he would be howling in pain, if not for the collapsed lung and shattered snout, preventing those howls.

OOC: The party hasn't been rolling that well recently, so I think that's part of the difficulty. That's also why I'm sticking to magic missiles, hehe.

Now on the far end of the bridge, Lenard launches yet another force missile. It crosses the distance, winding its way in between the heroes, before slamming into the black dragon. The acid from the dragon's breath continues eating away at the mage's skin despite the distance he has put himself from the fight.

Start of turn: take 5 acid damage.

"Blast!," Siv curses as Kamotz goes down once again. Quickly weighing his options, the calculating gnome decides that he (as well as the rest of the party) has a better chance of survival if the dragon's fury remains focused on the shifter. Disregarding the danger, he dashes to Kamotz's side, giving the dragon as wide a berth as possible.

Kneeling to administer first aid, he hisses at the unconscious shifter, "Fool! The goal of the battle is to spill the dragon's blood, not your own."

He works swiftly as only an experienced medic can, slapping a fleshy looking poultice over Kamotz's most grievous wound, applying a liberal dose of a revitalizing ointment, and waking the shifter with smelling salts.

Seeing that the dragon's predatory eye has noticed his quick ministrations, the gnome fires a hasty shot from his crossbow, which goes wide, but distracts the beast while he regains his footing.

Crunching, heavy metallic bending, some popping, and Kamotz chest-plate is violently forced back into position. *chting!* sounds the shield as it is freed from the amalgamation. Upon reaching consciousness, Kamotz lips curl into a howl, but for a moment none is forthcoming, until the first sharp intake of breath happens... OOOWWOOO! bemoaned the shifter, his bones still rigging themselves inside. Very quickly the shifter accepts the pain and assess' the situation, Acid... Burns... says the Shifter Dragons nasty... Good gnome... he seems to be working things out at his usual pace.

OOC: If he is still awake when his turn comes around, Kamotz will use the only daily magic item he has. Thanks for the heads up on that pacdidj
