There is a world beyond our own steeped in darkness and struggling in the aftermath of a divine war; a world where its people fight not only to survive but to amass power, riches, and honour. A place of intense, high-octane wire-fu action set against the background of desert landscapes, high speed train robberies, and mutant warriors battling it out for supremacy. Nothing is as it seems in this world, and everything is possible. We call it...High Plains Samurai.

Welcome back to our weekly look at tabletop roleplaying game, and accessories, crowdfunding roundup! Each week we’ll be looking at a few campaigns currently running that have caught our eye as well as occasionally speaking to some of the creators about their campaigns, or looking at some of the ‘behind the scenes’ business aspects of putting together, launching, operating and then delivering a crowdfunded project. If you have anything you’d like us to cover, or questions about anything we talk about, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment or contact me directly.
Those looking forward to Modiphius' 2d20-based Star Trek Adventures may be excited to hear about a limited edition boxed set which contains a "1701-D" limited edition rulebook, miniatures, dice, tokens, a GM screen, geomorphic deck tiles, character sheets, and a poster map, Geek & Sundry is reporting. No details on price quite yet, but the pre-order opens on June 8th. But the best thing about it? It's shaped like a Borg Cube!
This artwork will be appearing on Paizo's Starfinder GM screen. The screen will be 4-panels, filled with rules, tables, and other important information. But for the moment, let's just look at this ridiculously awesome art by Ignacio Bazán Lazcano on the player's side of it.
As a game master, you really can't have too many tools to help carry the load, or to help out during those times when the players zig and you prepared for them to zag. Or maybe they cut a blood swath of destruction through everything that you had prepared for the night, and there's still an hour or two to go in the evening. What's a GM to do? Luckily, the people at Inkwell Ideas can help out.
A rundown of the New Releases that should be hitting games stores this coming week! Board games, card games, Wargames, Miniatures and collectible games... hopefully something for everyone! For more information about any of the products please contact your local games store.
Economists have once again pointed a finger at escapist fantasy as the potential downfall of civilization -- with video games the most recent scapegoat -- due to young people supposedly finding their increasingly realistic escapism more appealing than work. And yet tabletop role-playing games are even more engaging than video games...so why haven't they heralded the end of the world as we know it?
Back in the days of yore known as the late-90s, a role-playing game called Unknown Armies, written by John Scott Tynes and Greg Stolze, fired gamers’ imaginations with its heady blend of post-modern occultism and transcendental horror. Now Unknown Armies is back in a brand-new third edition. Stolze is this time joined by a raft of talented developers—Cam Banks, Shoshana Kessock, Ryan Macklin, Chad Underkoffler, Monica Valentinelli, and Filamena Young—who have updated and streamlined the game’s percentile-based mechanics, and also brought the cosmology into the 21st century.
Following up from the (long known but) recently announced Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying 4th Edition game coming later this year, Cubicle 7 has announced that they will also be producing a Warhammer Age of Sigmar game. Age of Sigmar is an "epic tale of heroes, gods and monsters fighting a desperate battle for the fate of the Mortal Realms". The two games won't be compatible - they will be two entirely different lines with different rulesets. The announcement is below.
Continuing the news coming out of Paizocon this weekend (see this article for the Starfinder version of this post) I continue to report on Wolfgang Baur's live photos of the banquet presentation. In this article we see the Book of the Damned (hi Orcus!), Two new adventure paths (Ruins of Azlant and War for the Crown), and the upcoming Ultimate Wilderness hardcover which features new feats, mounts, animal companions, magic items, and a new Shifter base class.
Every year, Kobold Press' Wolfgang Baur attends the banquet at Paizocon, which always features a slideshow and presentation of new products and announcements. And every year, Wolfgang snaps photographs live and shares them, and every year I post 'em (along with his comments) here. So, another year, another round of the Paizocon Banquet! In this post, I'll show the Starfinder related goodness (Pathfinder will be separate). Here goes! (Starfinder is, of course, Paizo's upcoming Pathfinder-in-space core rulebook, releasing at Gen Con this year).
Modiphius has sent along a preview of some more of their upcoming Star Trek miniatures, along with some art from the tabletop roleplaying game. Both focus on the Romulans. There are currently four miniature sets lined up - The Original Series Crew, The Next Generation Crew, Klingons and Romulans. They’ll be available with the Star Trek Adventures pre-order which launches June 8. Also, check out the Original Series and Next Generation bridge crews here.
Yet another weekend where I am at a convention, which is enormous fun, but enormously exhausting. One of the Picks is in honor of said con, actually - I am at MantiCon, both as a member of the Royal Manticoran Navy and as their Gaming Guest of Honor. Meanwhile, take a look at the otherwise all-new stuff in the Picks for Savage Worlds, World of Darkness, Ninja Crusade, and Cartoon Action Hour!
It was announced this morning at the Forgeworld seminar at Warhammer Fest that British game designer and author Alan Bligh passed away on Friday 26th May after a brief fight with cancer.
