Baldur's Gate I vs. BG II

Gnome Berzerker

First Post
I've played BG II for a while now, and my friend has a copy of BG I. He says he'll give it to me, as he's playing a whole bunch of other games now.

Which one is better? I understand BG I is lower level play, which I seem to like a little bit more when I'm playing table-top, but I'm not too sure about on a PC.

Baldur's Gate II takes everything that made Baldur's Gate I great and improves upon it. It's got a more interesting storyline, deeper characters, more subquests, better character portraits, better voice acting, etc.

BGII all the way.

In fact, when first playing BG I wondered what the heck
the whole deal was with that game. It totally sucked. I
nearly gave up on it, it was so dull. I'm very glad I stuck
to it though, as when you finally get to Baldur's Gate, the
game really kicks off. A bit slow at first. If I hadn't stuck
with it I would never have played BGII (which was great)
and more importantly Planescape: Torment (which I grade
among my top 3 video game experiences evah!).

Oh yeah, play that one too.

It's worth playing through BG1, particularly to export your character to BG2, but BG2 is the better game.

BG1 runs at a lower resolution that BG2 if I recall, which makes it a little uglier, but...
