Warlock - Dark One's Blessing abusing

Could this power be abused this way ?

1) Imagine I intimidate a monster to surrender in Encounter #1, I tie him up, take a Short Rest, Curse him and then... sacrifice him to gain Temporary Hit points for Encounter #2.

2) Now imagine, if I bring with me a bag full of Rats..... :p

Is this "legal" ?

The first example I think is reasonable and "In character" for an Unaligned Infernal Pact Tiefling Warlock.
The second one I was obviously joking and would not try it, even less allow it in my games...

No. It specifically addresses this (and the bag of rats) in the DMG. A surrendered and tied up foe is not a viable threat and therefore you get no curse.

Indeed. Remember; contrary to what you see on television, you need to untie your sacrifices (and generally give them some form of weapon) before you can kill them and gain a bonus for your dark masters.

Nah. Sacrifices aren't for battle magic, they're for ritual magic. Consider this house rule:

Sacrifices and Creatures as Components
Certain creatures are valuable as sacrifices, or have components that are magically useful, and can be used to power ritual magic. A creature usable as a general purpose sacrifice should be considered as monetary treasure with a value equal to the creature's value as a sacrifice. A creature usable to enchant a specific item (e.g. the GM rules that the dragon's hide can be turned into +4 Wyrmscale armor) should be counted as equivalent to a specific reward of the equivalent item, and will increase the ritualist's level by 5 when trying to craft that specific item. A creature only usable for some other specific purpose should have its value adjusted for how likely it is that the PCs will have need for that specific ritual.

A campaign based strictly on sacrifices and creature components, with no buying and selling of items and extremely limited cash treasure, might be interesting.

The specific mention of the bag o' rats makes me suspect the OP is familiar with the rule which would discount this as it would the rats.

Hmm. This kind of rule would definitely promote the creation of lobotomized dragon farms.

This is covered by the DMG ? The bag of rats too ? Hahahhaah
I've just looked it up. This is so funny. (although it says sack of rats and not bag. see middle of left colomn on page 40)

Thanks everyone for pointing that out !!

I've just began reading the DMG (p.20 or so). I'll try to finish it before posting any more dumb questions. Sorry for that.

I was actually referring to the bag of rats because I was familiar with the Great Cleave Feat and bag of rats combo in 3.5.

Sacrifices would be a cool addition to the Ritual process. And a good reason to destroy an evil book of ritual like it was mentioned at the end of the Game day adventure. Destroying the book would give 20 xp to each player instead of selling it for 300gp. Some players would have like to know which ritual it contained (mainly the wizard) but I simply told them it was full of sacrifice and "evil" stuff.
