However, I fully expect him to recover fully before then. Also, note that the oracle did not mention whether or not Belkar would be raised. It could be amusing if Belkar dies just before Roy is resurrected - and then a mistake is made and Belkar is returned due to a clerical error.
This is probably why Rich Burlew doesn't read unmoderated threads. This is too good an idea not to use. :)

I disagree.

I love OotS, but if something like this happened, after the extremely long wait to get Roy raised in the first place, I think I would be done with it.

Nice. Somehow I am reminded of Cerebus comics.

2 similarities

1. The character has a heart to heart talk about how he sucks as a character (in Cerebus, its with his actual writer, Dave Sim)

2. The background shows a large image spread over the panels (in Cerebus, Mind Games, the whole 22 page comic could be cut apart and it would reveal that each page was part of a large picture of cerebus

oh, 3 similarities:

The character has a discussion in a strange dream realm.

Something I did not pick up on my read through the library's copy. Thanks for the tip.

I enjoyed this strip in and of itself but a steady diet of this sort of thing killed OotS' spiritual predecessor, Fuzzy Knights, at least for me.
You believe that OotS was somehow influenced by Fuzzy Knights? That's... wow... I don't even know what to say to that.

Fuzzy Knights is a gaming webcomic in the vein of Knights of the Dinner Table. Whereas KoDT is dialog-driven with mostly xerox panels and short, anecdotal stories, Fuzzy Knights is made with posed stuffed animals and has some really long storylines. I was a fan of KoDT, before they started doing serials, but I never found Fuzzy Knights funny and deciphering what was going on was a daunting task.

I'm guessing that last part is what jeffh is referring to. Calling it a spiritual predecessor is pretty bizarre though.

Hmm. Could we perhaps stop with the moral philosophy debate and get on with the... humour? Can't see it much here, at all. :uhoh:
I guess if you pay no attention at all to (a) the artwork and (b) the last panel, you might come away with that impression...

No, I meant what I actually said, not something completely different.

But I see the "what I actually said" part needs clarification.

FK started out as a fairly simple, gag-oriented strip chiefly devoted to making fun of gaming culture, albeit from a different angle than OotS, then decided it needed a deep, epic storyline. OotS has gone down a parallel path.

OotS, however, stayed good. FK... really, really didn't. Mostly, I think, because FK decided it needed to hit the reader over the head with philosophically deep themes - and ones very similar to those discussed in this strip, at that - while OotS has focused on telling a really good adventure yarn, hinting at something deeper only when it arose organically from the story.

Until now. While I enjoyed, and up to a point I applaud the somewhat experimental nature of, the last two strips, they do seem rather an abrupt departure from the style we've seen in the past. And that sets off warning bells for me, though it's entirely possible they will prove to be a false alarm.
