DDI - 8000 subscribers and counting - When will it stop?

With the release of Wizbook, we have gained somewhat an idea about the numbers of DDI subscribers. Or rather, we now know how many subscribers there is at the very least.

At the time of writing, it's 7972 members. As people log on to their Wizbook account, the number has been rising on a daily basis with around 500 per day after the initial surge when the core posters and subscribers logged in.

Anyway, I am curious about those numbers and wanted to hear what you guys think. Basically there is several questions burning in my mind -

Around which number will it stop? How many subscribers does DDI in fact have?
Is it more/less than you expected?
Is it more/less than WotC expected/hoped for?

How much business is that? I mean, assuming that every single member is paying the cheapest price ($5 per month), that's roughly $500000 per year. How much D&D should one get for that?

Personally, I am not quite sure what to think. 8k (and possibly quite a bit more) does sound like a decent start, although not wildly impressive.

If it is only 8000 I reckon WotCs lords and masters will be really annoyed, that is naff all.

But I cannot see where you get that number from, so I reckon it is many many more. I have no clue what wizbook is (and I guess I am not alone) but I subscribe.

Getting accurate numbers is likely hard as the practice o "paying once evey three months to download new stuff" seems to be common. So the numbers of subscriptions likely fluctuate rather strongly.

Not sure how reliable those numbers are , all 5 people in my DnD group have DDI subs, but I am the only one who goes to the wizards forums or logs anytime over there.

With the new community forums, there are community group. If you are a DDI subscriber, you automatically join the DDI group. That group is up to 8000 members, hence the number.

Did everyone got added to that group automatically, or do they have to log into the forum first?

Because if it really are just 8000 people, Hasbro likely won't like it.

I suppose it is when you log onto the forum - you have to fill out some stuff to make your account active there.

Otherwise it sounds horribly low.

I'd guess there are more than 8,000 subscribers total.

But 8,000 paying customers is $50-70K/month, right? Not too shabby....
