Oh, and publish all the standard races and classes players have come to know and love in the core books. "Everything is Core" so "everything is spread into X volumes of PHB" cannot be dropped fast enough.
Chance of getting a majority of players to agree to what should make up such a list? I'd say about 1 in 874,348,703.

Seriously. Gnomes and half-orcs out of the first PHB was a big point in 4E's favour to me.

Actual ninjas that come to your house and destroy all your old gaming material. Also pirates who force you to buy the new game at cutlass-point.

Never happen. WotC is against pirates. That's why they pulled the PDFs. ;)

Ah, but the thread isn't asking "What is the consensus of what should be in 5e?", it asks "What would you like to see?" I said what I would like to see.

But you said you wanted the "standard" races and classes. "Standard" implies consensus. I pointed out there is no concensus on races and classes as to what is standard.

You did later clarify to mean those races and classes you personally like, which is fair enough given the OP's question, but your first attempt did not answer the question, and itself strayed into consensus territory.

Yes.....Or "standard" could imply those which have predominantly appeared in the core books of previous editions of D&D........? Coincidently (or not!), the ones I would chose!

(And, if you do not want standard races, how about Fraggles and Gorgs?)

I'd like to see the default Greyhawk setting again.

Mechanically, a combination of ToB, Psionics, Incarnum, and throw in the Binder, Factotum, Dragonfire Adept, and Warlock for good measure.

Take the skills system from either Pathfinder or 4e.

And more thorough editing.

I;ll edit this later, but, for starters, I would like to see the following:

1. General
a. Less Gamist and less about encounter
b. A little less worry about "the math"
c. Class splats go back to the 2e Complete format- one class per book with lots of builds, class powers etc.
d. Magic Items moved out of the phb

2. Ability Scores
a. Removal of things like Con bonus to hit.
b. Back to 3e stat modifiers for defense modifiers (Con for Fort, Dex for Reflex, and Wis (or alternately for Will). Save the other stats for special "mystical" class abilities rather than default.

3. Races
a. Gnome and half orc replace the Dragonborn and Tiefling in the phb
b. Eladrin: Feystep
c. Half Elf: Diletante and Group Diplomacy replaced with something else.

3. Bard
a. Added to the PHB

4. Cleric.
a. Shielding Cleric Build added to the PHB
b. Cleric Domains from Divine Power in core
c. An option for Clerics that are not trained in armor (e.g, a class abiility option that gives up armor proficiencies in exchange for adding the Wis or Cha to AC when unarmored).
d. Going against your deity’s portfolio gets you “cut off”

5. Druid added to the PHB

6. Fighter
a. Come and Get it: changed to give a save for non minions

7. Paladin
a. Divine Challenge: replace with an alternative

8. Rogue
a. Two Weapon Fighting for Rogues
b. Shortbow and throwing knives!

9. Warlord
a Inspiring Word: limits on what this can do.

10. Backgrounds in the PHB

11. Paragon Paths and Epic Destinies as optional.

12. Skills
a. Skills become less broad
b. Skill Points return for players and removal of +1/2 level bonus to skills.

13. Combat and Hit Points
a. Hit Points less abstract
b. Removal of negative hit points
c. A star wars condition track for hit point loss
d. A Long term injuries option using disease track
e. P.42 expanded to a more Book of Iron Might Maneuver like maneuver approach.

14. Action Points, Healing Surge and Milestones
a. Action Points work more like Mutants and Masterminds 2e
b. Mutants and Masterminds style ComplicationsMilestones work like Rel's suggestion elsewhere on the board.
c. Milestones changed to story based like Rel's house rule on this site
d. Would like to see these triggerd by Action Points

15. Equipment and Economy
a. Economy reworked.
b. More of the real world weapons and armor from 1e and 2e PHB
c. Daily Item use rules redone
d. More interesting magic items

16. Rituals by default require skill check like Divine Power

I think we will see quicker combats (average 3 rounds rather than 5 rounds) and faster character creation along with going to hexes so its more compatible with Heroscape. They might even revise the rules so Heroscape is D&D light or some variation thereof. What I would like to see is a return of the fluff. I look through the core rule books and all I get is rules, this doesn't entice me to make a character or DM. I need my fluff to inspire me.

I didn't say I didn't want standard races, or that I specifically wanted non-standard races. I said that "standard" doesn't exist in the way that you mean it here.

Unless you go human, elf, dwarf, fighter, wizard and cleric. I think those would have to be considered standard. Is that what you mean?

I didn't get inspired to create Fistbeard Beardfist due to fluff. I got inspired because I had a dream, and idea, that is born out of my innate creativity and an understanding of how various rules interact in a hilarious fashion to promote alcohol healing and beard based combat.

Ultimately, one inspires oneself. Relying on outside sources for inspiration is like depending on vitamin supplements for nutrition instead of eating a proper diet.
