Pathfinder 1E You're the CEO of PAIZO. Now What?

We will never make 4E products because of the GSL. I just don't want to trust any part of my future to an agreement with another company that can be changed or cancelled at any time at their whim. Thankfully, Paizo is in a position where we don't have to put ourselves into that position, which I am thankful for.

On top of the legal issues with the GSL, there is manpower issues. I really would have to hire quite a few new employees and as I have said upthread, I am trying to keep our headcount the same so we don't start growing too fast. Add to that the fact that none of my employees are experts of 4E, and you can see that expanding our product line into doing products for 4E is fraught with too much peril, especially since the info I have is that 3rd party products for 4E are not doing very well at retail. I think doing 4E would be one of those instances of expanding into an area that we really shouldn't.

I repect your reasoning even though I do not agree with it.

You do not have to sign the GSL. The only thing to get my business (and by the looks of it, several of us 4E people) is to have a seaparate PDF with 4E encounters available when you purchase an adventure path.

Make international mail order vaguely affordable? Maybe check out Steve Jackson Games' option of Standard International Mail or whatever they call it - much, much cheaper than anything Paizo offers now.
Is there an issue in certain countries or parts of the world with international S&H charges from Paizo? I'm in the UK and I've got monthly subscriptions for the AP, Chronicles, and RPG lines and buy other odds and ends all the time at the Paizo store and I've never noticed excessive S&H charges as an issue.

Sure sometimes heavy things end up with high S&H charges, but this is to be expected really when shipping things internationally by Airmail - I just buy these from somebdoy in the UK instead if I think the charge is too high.

The biggest issue is normally import tax here in the UK, and associated charges from the Royal Mail, and Paizo have no control over these - I just try and manage my orders so they each stay below the value at which charges start to apply (and books are VAT exempt so it's only mixed orders that are generally at risk of incurring tax charges anyway).

In most cases I find ordering from Paizo (even with S&H charges) is still cheaper than buying from a (F)LGS in the UK at full RRP - and for the various subscriptions I also get a free PDF version of each book as well :)

Exactly.

4E people have massive amounts of support from WOTC (especially in the form of the DDI, Dungeon & Dragon), Goodman Games and a few others out there. All we have is Paizo. Supposedly it's incredibly easy to convert any edition to 4E so just do what other people have already been doing and convert the adventures to 4E.

What is this an us vs them? Really? Are you kidding?

We are talking about ADVENTURES. I would love a PDF that is availaboe for 4E encounters. I don't even care if they started with their first AP and then go from there.

If I am going to buy something to use in my game, I am going to buy something with the least amount of work I need to do. There is already enough work to get it in my game already.

This is also not a thread of cheerleading, it is if I where CEO. That is what I would do. Pathfinder, Adventure Paths for that, and conversions to other systems.

I think this would be the way to go and would make me consider buying some of paizo's stuff again.

There are loads of quality freelancers who could produce a 4e conversion, so there would be no need to increase head count and the 4e conversion would either pay for themselves of they wouldn't, legal bugaboo's aside.

If I missing the point from Lisa. Making any '4E' products will requiring a signing to the GSL. If I'm incorrect. Please show on where they can print without the use of the 'GSL'. PM me...I don't want to Hijack this thread.;)

4E has TONS of support in the way of the DDI, Dungeon and Dragon as well as a few of the more popular 3rd party companies which includes Goodman Games until fairly recently Necromancer Games. Pathfinder has 3rd party support as well but nothing like 4E. Anyway my main point is resources allotted toward making 4E product are resources that arent working on supporting the game that I play. I hope that that's not too hard to understand.

Paizo starts supporting two systems, that's less energy and effort supporting the one system that I support.

Also, I'm not cheerleading. People are supposed to post on the subject and not expect any kind of response? Really? That's how it works around here now? Someone posted something that I agreed with and I supported it. I'm not sparking an edition war. I wasn't bashing 4E, but if I'm not on board with what you like I should be posting in the thread? Really?

The problem is, this is not about how much support one company has vs the other. This is what I would want out of Piazo and this is what 4E is severely lacking IMO. Good adventures and adventure paths. Paizo are the undisbuted kings of adventure paths in my world. I would love to have some of their adventure paths officially converted. I also think there is a very good market for it as well.

I think the more important question is... as CEO of Paizo would this be in the best interest of your company and it's well being. I mean honestly, what 3PP has flourished under 4e? Goodman... maybe (and even they are creating their own rpg now). I just wouldn't see this as in any way a profitable move for Paizo.
