OK, maybe I'm being pedantic, but does anyone else find "Removed from Play" VERY jarring for an RPG? I can expect it with Magic the Gathering or something similar, but D&D? Uh-uh. C'mon, developers & designers...

Heh, well I guess WotC's MTG mentality had slipped over into enough other aspects of D&D that it was only a matter of time. :P

Removed from play is actually given full 'condition' status in essentials and can be clearly seen on the preview of the DM screen from a while back. So it will be much more clear how it works (and that you can't take actions) once essentials comes out and puts it with all the other conditions in 4E.

If you can't take actions, do you make a save at the end of your turn?

Making a saving throw is not a Free, Minor, Move, Standard, Immediate or Opportunity action, as far as I understand.

Yes; when you are removed from play, your turns still begin and end as normal, which means you make saving throws as normal since that happens during the "end phase" of your turn.

They should have called it "Banished" rather than the very gamist Removed from Play.

The actual powers have more thematic names - i think one for the cleric or wizard is in fact called banish or banishment or something. 'removed from play' is just the name of the condition that is imparted by the powers.
