With only one kruthik remaining it is dispatched quickly as blade and spell cut into it with sever force, splattering Kruthik innards across the cavern. Although the immediate threat has been dealt with, you can all clearly hear the chattering sounds of the other hive inhabitants echoing through the many twisting tunnels.

"So, what do we do now? There are so many tunnels, which one leads to my uncle?" Leonard asks, his uncertainty clearly heard in his voice.

[sblock=End of Combat?]
OK so you have breached the hives initial defenses, but time is not on your side. The hive is aware of your presence now and you have now decide how to find Mr. Ogglebottom in this labyrinth of tunnels.

You basically have 3 options before you;

#1 - get moving now - this will initiate a skill/combat challenge as you plunge deeper into the hive. No short rest to start with, but perhaps you will find time along the way (depending on your rolls of course).

#2 - Hold your ground - The kruthik reinforcements are on their way - can you hold the entrance and kill them all?

#3 - Retreat and return later - You can head back into the swamp, rest up and come back later - maybe you'll have an easier time around next time....

Please decide what the groups intentions are and then we can proceed in that direction.

[sblock=Current Status]

Alright so it looks like Thorn still needs to make a save as he is still poisoned. Thorn, please make a roll and if anyone would like to help him out please feel free to do so, or do something for yourself if it would normally only take a single round to do so (the clock (and the approaching horde of kruthiks) is ticking...)

As well, please take a look at the status below and let me know if the surges and powers used match your records. I lost the document I was tracking them on between the last few combats and to save me the time from going back through all the pages I'd appreciate it if you could just check your own.

Gellan – HP: 22/33; HS: 7/9; AP: 1 <= Used Swift Panther Rage, Hunters Quarry

Gloom – HP: 21/39; HS: 9/11; AP 1
<= Used Longtooth Shifting (Regen 2 and +2 damage while Bloodied), Heedless Fury & Blood Fury Fullblade (although you called it a longsword I believe you changed it), Fortune Spurned,

Martelai – HP: 36/38; HS: 6/9; AP 0 Used: Etheral Stride, Cutting Words, Blackleaf Gauntlets

Minharath – HP: 24/29; HS: 8/8; AP 2 <= Used Beacon of Hope

Thorn – HP: 16/35; HS: 9/11; AP 2
<= Ongoing 5 poison damage & slowed (save ends both); Used: Longtooth Shifting (Regen 2 and +2 damage while Bloodied)

Zharne – HP: 30/36; HS: 8/9; AP 1

Leonard - HP: 20/20; HS: 1/1 Used: Shadow Strike

[sblock=Action]Minharath will make a heal check (DC15) to grant Thorn an extra saving throw, allowing him to try twice to remove the poison.[/sblock][sblock=Kruthik usually have a strange property that causes them to avoid the rank smell of Kruthik blood - thus avoiding areas where large numbers of kruthik have died. Is that property absent for the purpose of this adventure? If not, does anybody have high enough Nature rolls to know about it?[/sblock]

OOC: Gellan has 27 HP -- he regained 5 thanks to Minharath's Astral Seal.

Gellan looks around, panting. "That one that escaped -- it will warn the others. I think we should press on before they can prepare too much." He picks up his dropped sunrod and looks to the others.

I have not changed anything core to the Kruthik for this adventure - I believe that nature checks were rolled earlier in the day (ie: months ago for us) and that fact was not revealed - but if anyone would like to find out for sure than please go ahead and prove me wrong.

"Let's get a breather. Who knows how many of them are here. And we should consider the ways of going into lower level. It seems they are not bothere by such triffles as lack of stairs." says Martelai looking down one of the holes.

"We should try to press-on a little farther." Thorn says. "We are still very close to the exit, so we can retreat if things get bad. If Ogglebottom is in here with these bugs, he'll need our help quickly."

[sblock=OOC]
If we take option #1 with no short rest, does that mean the current encounter is not over? If so, does that mean Thorn's Longtooth Shifting will continue to give him regeneration-2 ? If that is the case, Thorn won't be in too much danger of the poison and low HPs.

GM: No matter what option you take, the encounter is over. Longtooth shifting is spent as well as any other ongoing encounter powers that there may have been.

To regain encounters you need to take a short (5 minute) rest.

Taking option 1 would mean that you do not get a rest right away, but jump into the challenge of finding your way through the hive. Depending on your check results, you may find a suitable place to take a 5 minute breather. You also may find yourself another fight if you checks are bad. Either way you make your way further into the hive.

Taking option 2 would mean that you stand your ground and the next wave of kruthiks attack you in the entrance. Still a new encounter, but you would probably have a couple of rounds to spend surges, etc.

Taking option 3 would mean that you leave the hive, go back into the swamp and find a place to rest there. May be safer, and you get your rest, but then you have to enter the hive again, and perhaps fight your way back through once more.

Of course, there might be another option that you guys can think of, so fell free to come up with something, but be warned, the kruthik know you are here and are on their way.....tick tock (ie:too much standing around talking about what to do might force you into option 2 without your choice....)
