Rule of Three: 05/16/2011

So apparently a working Monster Builder (by working I mean "that actually builds monsters") is a pretty damn low priority, since it will have been whacked for nearly a year by the time they get it working again. :(

Very disappointing.

That's because those people who cared enough to cancel their subscription over it have already done so. Everybody else has the kept their subscription or re-upped despite the fact the MB doesn't match the offline's functionality. So there is no rush from their point of view. Better to keep up with their state goals of instant inclusion upon a book's release (along with small steps in getting the build aspects of the MB up-to-speed)... than to not succeed in either of those goals in a misguided attempt to put a rush on the MB build additions (considering they probably have no idea how long the actual programming will take to get everything into the online that the offline had).

The answer to the question about multiclass or hybrid assassins and vampires said NOTHING about vampires. I'd take that to mean vampires will not be getting the MC/hybrid treatment.

I think you miss read it...

Will the assassin and vampire ever become hybrid capable and multi-classible?

The original assassin already has a hybrid option available in the Character Builder. The executioner sub-class, along with the vampire, will receive hybrids and new feats to aid in multiclassing in June.

We'll see darn soon anyway. They said they'd be coming out with that in short order.

I do think they need some feats for Vampire. Honestly I'd rather see them drop in a couple of feats and/or a minor errata and/or a couple items to just bring up the DPR some. Rather than force you to dilute your vampireness in order to fight well. It works pretty well at lower levels, and does the right stuff even at high levels, it just doesn't do quite ENOUGH of it.

I know they're probably just testing out different models, but I'm curious about why the Revenant-style race model appears to not be considered more appropriate than the class model for a Werewolf.

Combine a base race with some racial utility powers similar to the Shade (which functionally works like a template), and I think it could work well. Then a Dwarf werewolf fighter could be completely different from an Eladrin wererat wizard.

Or is the Revenant model considered to have failed?

What the Revenant did was basically open you up to taking racial feats from your past race as well as from the Revenant. Well I believe racial feats are a thing of the past so that's why we probably won't see the Revenant mechanic again.

It's annoying that they killed racial feats; to me they were the only real way to keep your race a significant factor in your character as you leveled.

Personally, I was happy with the way they did Bloodlines:
You took the feat, got an extra encounter; and the ability to choose more feats to fill out your bloodline.

Now, they could easily tweak this, in that you take the feat; gain the encounter power and some bonuses (as it should be about as worthwhile as a hybrid/multiclass feat); allow more bonuses at appropriate levels like a theme, and allow for a list of new racial utilities.

The price would be no ability to multi-class; since this effectively takes your multiclass, a feat slot, utilities you're willing to swap.

Though, I'm more especially hopeful for the monster builder. I might actually re-sub for that.

A shame, because that would have worked nicely as well.

Basically anything would be better than what they did with vampires.
