A Question About Foreign RPGs

Theo R Cwithin

Ironic the conversions to metric -- I'd think bizarre unit labels might be part of the setting charm. I'm just waiting to purchase an RPG that measures in cubits, furlongs, and leagues.
Agreed. Fantasy gaming is the one area of life in which imperial units don't routinely grate on my nerves... and D&D for instance would be even better if it went all out, with the chains and the hogsheads and such.

Or even better, just make it up. "Five feet"? Naw, just call it a "longpace" and be done with it. Then it doen't matter what country you're in, as long as the locals are vaguely man-sized.

On that subject does anyone know what languges some of the major games like D&D, Gurps, etc are available in? Been trying to track down something is available in both Thai and English.
I don't think rpgs have made it to the eastern world yet. I spent some time in S. Korea, and nobody had ever heard of D&D or rpgs*, let alone seen a game book.

*Unless of course someone thought I was talking about FF or something.

Older versions in Ireland didn't do the conversion, I'm not sure about later versions. And from where I'm sitting you're the foreigner buddy! :D
Haven't you heard? The universe revolves around the U.S.A. ;)

French versions of the game have pretty much always used the metric system. As to why would someone use the metric instead of the imperial system ? I would guess that it is easier for those used to the metric system to relate to the measurements presented in that system instead of constantly having to translate from one to the other in order to get a feel for the distances/volume/area/weights.
