Cleric / Wizard

Creating a Cleric / Wizard for an upcoming one on one game.

First: Picking a Race - I am going with Half Elven Male for this one (Yes, I know that I can get extra skills and a free feat by going Human).

Second: Ability Scores - 4d6 - lowest, rolled 7 times drop lowest (Ignore the 8th roll, I couldn't figure out how to delete it) So, I get 13, 10, 17, 14, 5, 10 and 14. Well you can guess which one I am dropping right? How I see this is -

STR 10 +0
DEX 14 +2
CON 13 +1
INT 17 +3
WIS 14 +2
CHA 10 +0

Or do you think swapping INT and WIS would be best?
Or swapping STR and CON given that ---

Third: Picking Domains - Character will be a cleric of Boccob (God of Magic) with suggested domains of Magic and Trickery but I am going with Magic and War (I want that bloody longsword).

Okay, go ahead and tell me how I am wrong. ;)

Your stat placements seem fine as is. I have to strongly recommend different domain choices.

The biggest benefit of Magic domain is using sorc/wiz items, but you can already use them...by being a bloody wizard! And war helps you be better in melee, but news flash... as a multiclass wiz/cleric/mystic theurge... your BAB and hp is going to be godawful horrible and your AC not much better. The one thing MT has going for it is a veritable near-endless arsenal of spells. Do not try to melee, it's not needed and it will work out very poorly for you!

Ok, I think I'm done telling you how wrong you are. :p

StreamOfTheSky has it about right.
Remember that Polymorphing and Shapeshifting change your physical stats to set numbers, anyway, so having Str is mostly irrelevant.

Your best bet is probably to be a controller/nuker since it's a one on one game.

I had considered the martial proficiency and weapon focus for the longbow instead (which probably makes better sense), and the DEX score is in the right place, okay, that will be change one.

I Guess maybe I should use the Protection Domain instead of Magic.

What we have is an idea for the clerics of each god to possibly have different orders.

In the case of Boccob - a Priestly Order (Good), A Protective Order (Nuetral) used as temple guards and messengers and a Trickster Order (Chaotic)

And if I specialize as a wizard what area would you suggest?

I would keep Int as is for skill points and because wizard spell DCs are more important.

If you're going to forbid a school, necromancy is a good choice because cleric get better spells anyway (and you don't seem to be evil). The specialty school I would suggest as being transmutation or evocation since these are largely out of the cleric sphere of influence. Illusion would also be a good specialty, paired with the Trickery domain.

Arer you sure you don't want to go elf instead of half-elf?

You get marital proficienty in longsword, rapier, longbow and shortbow for free.

I would swap the starting Dex and Con rolls for this build though (-2 Con, +2 Dex)

Races of the Wild has a racial substitution class for Elf Wizard that is pretty decent. You can pick and choose which specific levels you want - so you can take the 1st level "generalist wizardry" {gain 1 extra spell per wizard level for you spell book by giving up being able to specialize and not the 3rd level "natural bond"

What level will you be? and are we safe in assuming you plan to PrC Mystic Theurge?

I agree, you'll have little need for weapons. Enjoy spellcasting!

Nope, This one is half elf, later there will two elves, two dwarves, 1 each gnome and halfling and 4 humans

I have to dig deeper into specialization 1st but I will probably do evocation if I do.

Yep, can't argue with Mystic Thuerge and gaining in both spell types with EACH level. With the war domain giving me the longbow skills as a ranged weapon and keeping the mace for melee I will be okay when I start play as a Cleric 2 / Wizard 1

I suppose my best feat bets are Combat Casting at 1st and Still Spell at 3rd. Character will be in light armor only and I would only use the feat when spell failure was really not acceptable.
