implement question

hipnotode

First Post
ive just rolled an ardent/rouge noble adept, and ive come to a stop as i realise that noble adept powers are implement powers. normal this wouldnt be too much of a problem, a little annoying maybe as you haveto buy another item every +#, and maybe a feat or two on expertise ect, but nothing major. my real problem came because there isnt a way, that i can see, for me to gain proficiency with an implement.
i kind of see why they havnt put a feat in for it, allowing implement based characters to use holy symbols is a big thing, leaving them with both hands free. and ki-focus's combining multiple weapons under one proficiency bonus/expertise is awesome. i would just like to be able to gain proficiency in an implement though. it seams silly that ive been given access to implement powers, but not to an implement (outside of multiclassing)

any thoughts on the matter?

You can multiclass into a class that uses implements, and that will get you the implment proficiency you need.

The easiest solution is multiclassing into Monk. Congratulations. Now whatever weapon you're using is an implement for your noble adept powers.

The implement errata removed that aspect of the monk multiclass feat. Now it just gives ki focus proficiency.

Now you can use a ki-focus for your powers, weapon OR implement, and take the ki focus expertise thus making it so you only need one expertise feat, and pretty much accomplish the same thing anyways.

I am not sure if that part of the monk's ki-focus mastery is granted by the updated MC feat. It's not specifically mentioned and it's not a general thing of being proficient with a ki-focus

DracoSuave was not speaking very precisely, but he understands.

(For those of you following along at home, the implement errata can be found easily by searching for "monastic" in the update document.)

I wrongly thought that being able to use a ki-focus on weapon attacks was a special of the monk (and assassin) and not a general property of the ki-focus-implement-group. Since it was specifically mentioned in the class texts of monk and assassin but not in the vampire's

No, it is not a class feature of the monk, assassin, or vampire, but an actual rule inherent to ki focuses themselves. It doesn't need to be specifically mentioned in the class texts of any class, because it's specifically mentioned in the section on ki focuses themselves, far divorced from any class feature text. (PHB 3, p 203) The fact it may be reprinted in other locations is not relevant... the entry for ki focuses themselves include the abilities to use them with weapons/

Also, can you point out this errata for Monastic Disciple? It's not in the copy updated to August 31st.

Check the compiled update. All the feats that grant implement proficiencies got lumped together in a special heading.

Ah yes, I see that now, that I should not have been looking in PHB3 updates for updates to the PHB3. How foolish of me to expect things to be exactly where they should be.

Still doesn't change the fact that Monasdtic Disciple = implement and weapon and not worrying about updating two items and having a new expertise feat that doesn't really suck.
