[Adventure] Little Workshop of Horrors (Judge: stonegod)

Moses approaches the man warily looking behind him to see if he is being pursued. He mutters:

"And behind the tattered man will follow the scarlet stain born on swift wings..."

Canus watches the man drop with a raised eyebrow. "Oh, my. Do you think he's going to make it, Doc?" he asks evenly, his eyes scanning the rooms for threats.

You don't see any other dangers in the room. Whatever maimed this man isn't here now.

As Venakhad tends to the wounded man, he sees that the worker's clothes hid a number of incision marks. They look almost surgical in their placement, though not in their precision and cleanness. The man stares up at the Kalashtar with wild eyes, clumsily grabbing at Venakhad's collar.

"The Builder, it's gone mad!"

"What?" Maerek interjects as he hurries over. "What are you talking about? Do you mean Thurven? What's gone on here?"

The man starts shaking his head violently, "No. Not Thurven. Not anymore. Now the Builder. It needs more parts. More parts. Had to disassemble..." he trails off, his eyes drifting to his left shoulder.

Maerek looks very pale, but continues the questioning, "We need to hear what Thurven has to say about this. Where can we find him?"

The worker almost laughs, "Find the Builder? The Builder is everywhere. You'd have to burn it out. It out?" he asks to himself. Then he shrieks, "No! Can't let it out! Don't let it out!" He struggles against Venakhad for a moment, then goes limp.

Moses looks up at the roof and the walls around him.

"Everywhere ... the stain is everywhere. It watches and listens to us even now, this builder of nightmares. Your Thurven is gone. The stain has consumed the man he was. He is now machine. Machine gone mad."

His eyes spark wildly as he says this last part, his lips pulling back into a maddened grimace of laughter which erupts from his belly.

As suddenly as it began his laughter stops.

"Burn it out..."

His eyes snap to the limp body. He raises his staff to point towards him.

"Burn him. Burn it out."

"Get a grip!" booms powerful mental voice of kalashtar priest.

He then rasps aloud:
"This man is hurt, but not tainted. You will do no such thing as burning him."

OOC: TwoHeadsBarking, is he dead or just unconscious? If dead, Venakhad could allow burning to avoid the body being desecrated

Belanaar has been silent while the tortured man approached and fell unconscious. Taking the warning of the man, the young elf keeps his eyes scanning the closed doors, just waiting for one of them to open and have a new, even more grotesquely brutalized construct ready to tear them apart.

"Venakhad... is he able to be stabilized?"

Moses' eyes come back into focus as the Kalashtar growls at him. He makes a slight bow of deference.

"Apologies, healer. I thought the man dead. As you well know there is that which walks yet between the realms of life and death. Fire burns them out. I pray to the Storm that this pathetic creature does not fall in between and come back to haunt your mercy."

Canus gives a slight cough, managing to give off the the impression of being slightly offended. "Of course, such things are not an issue with myself around. Insurance, of a sort."

"Everywhere ... the stain is everywhere. It watches and listens to us even now, this builder of nightmares. Your Thurven is gone. The stain has consumed the man he was. He is now machine. Machine gone mad."

Maerek stares in horror at both the Moses and the injured man. "I... I think you might be right." He shakes his head to clear his thoughts, then turns to the massive furnace. "Here. I can cause this to overheat. Violently. It should destroy the entire workshop. Um, and give us enough time to get out." He coughs, "Ideally."

You hear a faint crash from other room in the complex. Given the near-labyrinthine tunnel structure, all you can really tell is that it didn't come from this room.

Maerek swallows nervously and looks around at all of you, "Is this right? Should I do this?"
