Special Conversion Thread: Lycanthropes and their ilk

I'm wondering whether we shouldn't add a "gore option" to the Hybrid form, like we did for the Wereram conversion?

Thus:

Attack: Claw +12 melee (1d6+9) or gore +12 melee (1d8+9) or falchion +12 (2d6+13)
Full Attack: 2 claws +12 melee (1d6+9) and gore +7 melee (1d8+4) and bite +7 melee (1d8+4); or falchion +12 (2d6+13) and gore +7 melee (1d8+4) and bite +7 melee (1d8+4)

Description, flavor, and tactics look good.

I'd be willing to add a gore to the hybrid form, and frankly I think claws are silly for a hybrid werebison. I'd be willing to drop those to compensate.

The problem is the blinkin' Lycanthrope Template requires claw attacks, even if the base animal doesn't have them - or even legs for that matter, as in a Weresnake.

Given the choice, I'd give it slams instead of claws, since I'd think a Werebison would have hoof-fists.

Yes, I agree, the template isn't broadly designed enough. We could break the mold and declare this not to be a standard lycanthrope if we feel strongly enough about it. I'm pretty sure that's been done before.

I did it with the Weresheep and nobody complained. (or perhaps they just didn't notice...)

So, shall we go for claws, bite and gore?

I think I noticed but didn't want to complain since it made sense. ;)

Why not slams and gore instead of claws and bite? I'd do that.

Just noticed that the SRD lycanthropes don't follow the 2 claws plus bite form uniformly anyway. Why didn't they write the template rules better?

I'm fine swapping the claws to slams and adding a gore, but if we don't also add a bite the Curse of the Lycanthrope special attack is useless (unless we make that work with a slam rather than a gore).

Hmmph. Make it work with the gore attack?

Dang it, I meant to say "unless we make that work with a gore rather than a bite" - Curse of the Lycanthrope isn't normally inflicted by a slam!

So, you fancy a slam/slam/gore with the gore inflicting lycanthropy?

I was finding that tempting, but it is quite a ways from the template.

The SRD wereboar does claw/claw/gore with cursed gore in hybrid form.
The wererat doesn't seem to get claws at all in hybrid form.

In any case, I think there's precedent. It's just that the template isn't written very well.
