Anybody gonna run the 4e Steading of the Hill Giant Chief from DDI as a PBP here?

Could be some of each. Trying the murauder option so a melee and a heavy throw action each round with a focus on giant slaying. So many options it is taking me a while to finish. I will post what I have in the morning.

If you go with that, I'll probably go with a human Hunter/crossbow specialist- long-range single target controller.

drothgery, your wish is granted.

Change in plans. The Marauder seems to me at least to be a mess. After I got it all together it looks like it will require a lot of unnatural running about and complex record keeping to track ongoing bonuses. I just think it will be a nightmare to run in play by post. On top of that I'm not sure it will be effective. Mediocre AC and drawing lots of opportunity attacks. So so hp. I'll have a straight up archer build up ASAP. Most likely striker rather than controller.

On a positive note I've got the role-play aspects sorted out and they need not change. In his former life my character was a Highwayman Merry Bandit type. With the coming of the Giants he's become more civic minded.

Cool. List of proposed characters post has been updated.

Here's a draft of my Ranger. I'll try to get the fluff/personality etc. written up tonight or tomorrow.

[sblock=Background]

Wik was the child of a yeoman farmer. His father was also an accomplished bowman and served the local lord as an archer whenever the levies were called. He taught his son to use a bow as well. Unfortunately, the local lord got entangled in an internal struggle within the nobility of the Kingdom. Wik’s father died in a battle and the local lord was stripped of lands and title. The new lord had no love for the local people and has been ruling with an iron hand. His family’s lands were tied to the lord and so they have been taken and given to men loyal to the new lord. He turned to hunting to provide food for his mother and younger sister. He was soon branded an outlaw for taking the lords deer and fowl. He took to living in the wild and soon met up with a band of other disenfranchised men. Most had served the old lord and had no love for the new authority. They took to raiding those who traveled roads in the wilder parts of the lord’s domain. Mertain’s Marauders as they came to be known on wanted posters nailed in every local village took pains to only take part of the travelers’ goods unless they were lord’s men. Often times they took merely a few turnips from a farmer going to market or a song from a wandering minstrel and Mertain became infamous for stealing kisses from ladies and leaving them their jewels. Often merchants would return from the forest with the bulk of their goods and still drunk from joining the Marauders in a forest feast. It was a good life and the local lord lacked the resources to chase the Marauders from the wilds with so many of his own men caught and striped of weapons and tax money.

Wik was an able archer and thief and soon became skilled in woodcraft and surviving the wilds. The reputation of his bowmanship helped the Marauders to bring down many a victim without drawing a blade. The large green fletched arrows striking suddenly on a wagon seat or in a tree beside a traveler’s head were often enough to elicit cooperation from travelers.

But change comes to all men good and bad. The depredations of the Giants brought the local lord down, but also destroyed the village where Wik’s mother and sister lived. With their friends, enemies and families killed, Wik and many of the Marauders swore to fight the Giants. Mertain was one of the first to fall in an early skirmish. Wik has been fighting for some time now and learning about his quarry. He knows their habits and even some of their language. After so many losses the Marauders have been effectively disbanded and the few survivors scattered. He has joined an official band of adventurers in hopes of securing a pardon for past crimes though there is some doubt that he will live long enough to collect such a pardon.

FRmph. Halfway tempted to submit a crossbow Hunter for single target controlling to complement ranged striker/other controller. Or else some kind of leader/controller type. Who wants to get into melee with giants, anyway?

Will ruminate/kitbash a bit- should have something up tomorrow.

I riffed a little off Gwenn's back-story. I noticed a couple of the other characters had spent some time on the wrong side of the law (Lucan, Gwenn, maybe others). Anybody want to be an ex-Mertain's Marauder with Wik? I'm certainly open to change the details if anyone has a better idea. Perhaps we can work in the possibility of a pardon for services against the Giants for the ne'er-do-wells among us? Of course their is also the possibility that we worked opposite good guys like Brook and maybe Aelar or even Deacon. Might make for some interesting tension for former foes to be working together.

I like this, I can see Brook working with former adversaries against a bigger threat to civilization. Not that he will be completely happy about this idea mind you, but sacrifices in the cause of the greater good and all that...

Cool. Does he believe the official line (which is that Gwenn Arellic, like her father and the rest of his line, is quite dead)? In either case, how will he react to her? Also note that Gwenn very much considers herself one of the 'good guys' :)

So I wasn't the only one who looked at the backstories and thought, "This will certainly make for some interesting situations considering how many criminals there are"? But yeah, I like the idea that some of the party had been on opposite sides for a while, it fits pretty well.

Like for example, it's possible that given Lucan's history as an assassin and Deacon's history as royal guard, the two ran into each other a few times. Maybe it was Deacon that thwarted his last mission, even?

Even the druid has a shady background (as seen in the assassin multiclass).

BTW, I'm still clothing my background idea in words (I hope this is also an English idiom).
