I'm disappointed. Not at 5E, but at the poster. There was no real info in there. It's probably legit, but the only info we got was "they're looking at different approaches to do stuff and compare them". Well, duh, it's a playtest. That's how you test stuff. News at 11.

I just wish they'd put that stuff on the website instead of slapping NDAs on it. It does work for Linux. Sure, ther'd be an initial shitstorm, but I think the dust will settle and open feedback even at an early stage will massively improve the game.

It's a learning process for both fans and designers. We'll see what will come out of this. I'm not worried at all.

I am definitely more of an old-school grognard, but I am trying to remain cautiously optimistic. If they can remove "powers" from fighters and rogues, that will be a plus. While Vancian magic will (unfortunately) remain the "default" magic system, I do kinda like the "feat" that allows a mage to use spell slots to fuel "at-will" attacks (like "javelin of fire" or magic bolt). It sounds like mages might be able to do this like a cleric can (in 3.x) swap out spell slots for healing. That would be a Very good thing; a wizard would no longer have to be stuck with his Web spell when a good ol' blast is needed.

Let's just see how this plays out..

Wow, if that post is legit, I'm done with 5e. That sounds horrible.

By posting his playtest experience, the violator of the NDA has harmed 5th Edition. There are others like JRRNeiklot who read what was posted and say "that's not for me."

WotC will have a public playtest (as they've stated). Until then, WotC wants the ability to test, tinker, modify, and screw around with the rules in private. Who knows what WotC was really testing in this playtest. It could have been the Adventures, the Monsters, the Casting Mechanics, the Thief Powers, the Warlord class, Cleric prayers, the spells, or the feats. Regardless, the player base now has incomplete data and will form uninformed opinions about the product.

WotC did not want the player base at large to view the information in this form. The information is incomplete, in development, may be a complete hoax, and absolutely not what WotC wanted to present to the public at large.

It's a shame the violator did not honor his or her word.

Rule 22: If it exists, someone will complain about it.

Absolutely! :D

Its a playtest. Now is the time to make concerns like these known. Remaining silent about what we like or don't like about certain bits then not buying at release doesn't do WOTC much good does it?

I aim to be loud about my likes and dislikes. That way when the game is released if its something I don't care for at least I know that something was said before the die was cast.

.

this is true, we don't know what specifically they were testing, it was all so vague and subject to change anyway.
