D&D 5E I hope this isn't 5E...(art that screams "not this, not this!")

Personally my issue with small elf ears is that it draws elves even closer into the realm of "skinny human". Not saying the ears need to be as big as say, Night Elf ears, but they should definitely be larger than a Vulcans. 4e's Eladrin ears are about a good size to me. Big enough to say "oh that's an elf!" at a quick glance, small enough to still be realistic on a humanoid. I think WoW's Blood Elf ears are probably the maximum I'd ever want to see, or allow.
I feel the same. Slightly pointed ears like those from a Vulcan or a LotR elf are nowhere near enough to make them visually distinct from humans. A bit more exaggerated, like they are in 4E books, is much better. No need to go too crazy, but a bit of emphasis on the one distinguishing physical trait common to all elves doesn't hurt.

Mmmmm, no. Vulcan ears are fine and dandy. Night elf ears are, in the language of the Harry Potter universe, ridiculous. Oh wait! That's actual English!

I don't know what that means. How big were an eladrin's ears in 4e? Example?

Ears from WoW no matter what "breed" of elf were nonsense..."anime-ish"...and just plain BAD!

D&D, no matter what edition you like/prefer, is NOT WoW. Stop it now. Stop it forever. Comparison of what the 5e PnP RPG "should be" by/because of comparison with computer games, needs to stop, here, now, forever.

Art, rules, level progression, combat, skills, all of it. Just...no. Stop. A PnP is NOT a computer game nor needs to simulate one.

I said "IMO". And yes, Night Elf ears are seriously ridiculous.

I don't know what that means. How big were an eladrin's ears in 4e? Example?

I'm sorry, the "I hate everything that is wow on principle because it is wow" is a pathetic and frankly dead argument. If you can't see the merits of something because it's a video game and not a pnp game, then you really need to open up your box to new ideas. That kind of thinking will do nothing other than alienate modern gamers who are a heartily needed addition to the D&D franchise, otherwise we can kiss this game goodbye.

Now, see, I think that is a totally acceptable "ear length/look" for elves. No issue here.

I'm sorry, the "I hate everything that is wow on principle because it is wow" is a pathetic and frankly dead argument.

Well, no, that's not what I said. The elf ears in WoW, for any breed of elf, yes, those are ridiculous.

And I will thank you to not call my opinions/tastes "pathetic."

If you can't see the merits of something because it's a video game and not a pnp game, then you really need to open up your box to new ideas.

I've yet to have a compelling argument as to why. I am VERY open to "new ideas" specifically in the area of art to be used in the next edition/iteration. But saying "this is how they do it in X video game so it's good enough for D&D" is a, likewise, flawed argument.

That kind of thinking will do nothing other than alienate modern gamers who are a heartily needed addition to the D&D franchise, otherwise we can kiss this game goodbye.

"Modern gamers" want to have elf's ears sticking out the side of their head?

And, quite frankly, [everyone duck and cover, as I will after this post] I'd be FINE with alienating "modern gamers." Since "they" seem to be nothing but "rules layers" and "power-gamers/min-maxers" who seem to think that is HOW the game "should be" played....so they "can win", like, if they play the game by the numbers and get the SSSShhhhtuff they should "are entitled to [on their "wish list"] " because they're level X, they are similarly entitled to "win."

I guess that comes across as just so much "edition-warring"...and it really isn't meant to be...as I have no reason to war with anyone. I have my game and my people and we're all happy with how things are for our game. But, also, I didn't bring it up! All I asked for is decent elf-ears.

That's neither here nor there, nor relevant to the conversation of what art should not be in D&D:TNG.

All I'm askin' fer is no "crazy long elf ears!" Is that so wrong?

Do you get "paid" every time you put a phrase in "inverted commas"? Because if you "do", then I'd "like" to get in on "that" action.

"Sorry" Buugipopuu, I do not. I'm assuming by "inverted commas" you mean "quotation marks".

But no. Wish I was! That'd be AWESOME! I could totally make a mint on that...and wouldn't be stingy on it either. I'd definitely let you in on that "action".

:p lol.

Then don't. Putting down others' opinions as "wrong" is frowned upon on this "message board."

Both sides could stand to ratchet down the rhetoric in this thread. If not, we'll close it.
