Karsite... the best Warlock Race?

Empath Negative

First Post
The Karsite is amazing.

+2 Con/+2 Cha
10+Char levels SR
Weap/Arm prof roughly equal to a Barbarian
And if they beat your spell they get healed by it.

Drawback is... can't cast arcane or divine spells...

However, if you look closely you ALSO see that it comes with the base traits of a human.

+1 Skill Point per level, and +1 Feat.

it has a +2 Level Adjustment but that's dealt with with level buyoff easily enough.

So... they would be awesome as Binders but also as Warlocks. The text CLEARLY states they cannot cast *spells*, and as we all know, Warlocks do not cast spells. They could even be phenom Wilders or Incarnates...

Well, except for the +2 LA. Even with buy off, you are looking at level 6 before you buy off the first level . That's ECL 8 for everyone else. And buy off only works in games where the DM calcs the XP for everyone separate. Not all do. For 2 of my RL games, the DM does it. For the 3rd, the DM gives everyone equal XP regardless of level, even though the levels span 2-3 levels at any given time.

Its decent, in a specific set of circumstances. Most of the time, I'd rather just have the 2 levels. Best warlock race ever? Nope.

I bet some of the anthropomorphic animal races from Savage Species have Cha bonuses. And I wouldn't be surprised to find a Template that gives one as well.

Also, Dromites.

Strongheart Halflings are the best Warlock race, period. Charisma isn't everything. Being small and getting a bonus feat on top of +2 Dex (which is super-important for Eldritch Blast), while only 'paying' -2 Str (which you don't need for anything) makes Strongheart Halflings amazing for Warlocks.

Karsite? You lost me at +2 level adjustment. Easily bought off? Try playing one from the low levels and tell me how it goes. Power-wise, Warlocks are already behind the curve. They get very few tricks. Their only saving grace comes from picking tricks that are useful over and over. If you're lagging 2 levels behind the others, your pitiful stat bonuses won't be able to compete. Also, friggin' spell resistance? I always feel like that's simply horrible for PCs - no buffs, no healing... I'd rather not have SR than have it!

Hmm... If you could add a +0 LA template to a Strongheart Halfling that gave the little tykes a Charisma bonus you could be in serious ass-kicking territory...
