No Racial Hatred

I've seen a lot of back and forth on the forums about what races people don't want to see in the Player's Handbook, but what is there that people do want? Especially lesser-known races that deserve more love. I'd personally play 5e no matter what races they include, so there are no deal-breakers for me, but I'd love to see half-giants, warforged, hengeyokai (animals that can shapechange into humans), and some kind of undead. I'd rather have a menangerie of distinct creatures- undead, elementals, constructs, shapechangers, dragonborn- than a book full of almost humans. So what are your favorite races?

Honestly, I really like the approach they're suggesting: Putting in every race that's ever appeared in a (first) PHB.

If I were sketching out a wishlist, I'd probably add a couple more, but I can't argue with that as the strict criteria. On one hand it says "Your favorite race wasn't included? Sorry, here was the criteria." And on the other it stands as a symbol for 5e's big tent "everything you loved in D&D is here" approach.

So, yeah: dragonborn, dwarves, eladrin, elves, gnomes, halflings, half-elves, half-orcs, humans, and tieflings.

Cheers!

I would like to see most of the races for 3.5/4e and some added with Level adjustment +1 in core PHB.

also some races have too be less cartoon like in appearance.

so...

Human
elf
dwarf
halfling
gnome
halforc
halfelf

dragonborn, LA +1(draconic template that can be added to base race)
aasimar, LA +1(celestial template)
tiefling, LA +1(infernal template)
Genasi, LA +1(one of four elemental manifestations, template)
Dark elf(drow) LA +1
High elf(eladrin) LA +1

There must be support for all races playable in former editions, and more.

Tools should be provided to assure diverse worlds and styles of DMing can be played.

No. Level Adjustment was a horrible idea and it was horribly intepreted and it came into my house and kicked my dog. I don't want to see it return. It's influence on 3.5 was one of my least favourite aspects of that edition.

Please I hope DDN will spare us from level adjustments. That was the most horribly unbalanced system ever developed.

I definitely never want to see level adjustments again.

I want the PHB to include both a Core and Modular section of races. Core should include the common denominators for the establish brand settings. The Modules can include anything else that made a PHB in history provided they can be balanced and presented concisely. The less world history baggage / overhead with more modern innovations in playable races the better. (IE - no more Bael Turath or Arishoka, etc.) Vague suggestions of cultural values, supernatural origins, and/or family structures are more than sufficient to get a DM started integrating a random Dragonborn, Planetouched, or Shifter character into a more conventional setting.

That's why I stated only LA +1 races, as more LA goes up, the harder is to balance.

Also some races have special and unique powers, so if you wan't to give them that, you must reduce their power somewhere and best solution is to give them LA not penalties to skills and abilities.

But all LA +1 races have to be carefully balanced so we don't see half-dragon syndrome form 3.5e
