Second Wind first appeared in Star Wars Saga Edition, where a "bloodied" (half hit points or lower) character could take an action to regain one-quarter of his hit points. This was a daily ability.

In 4e, Second Wind became an encounter resource, and was tied to the concept of healing surges (so you could use it 6 or 7 times per day).

At the moment, DDN has no Second Wind ability. Should it?

Second wind is cinematic, it reduces the need for healers or clerics to be only healers, and makes hp a bit more strategic. So yes! I am fine with it being an encounter ability.

It makes more sense or as as much sense as having a healers kit able to heal an absolute truck load of hp.

I would love for DDN to have a second wind-like feature for all classes. Perhaps simply combine it with "total defense" and make it recover much fewer HP(let's say 1hd worth). That way there's no issue with why its a "daily" and basically represents the character "turtling" in combat to regain some mojo.

I wouldn't mind it, especially if it gave you temporary hit points instead of actually healing you.

I'd be more willing to support this than most other ideas, if it was a 1/day mechanic or a feat option like Die Hard or Endurance and the temp hp lasted for no more than an hour

If it was temp hp couldnt you use it before you were damaged and lift your hp above your normal limit to buff yourself? This would go against the recovery side of things implied in the term second wind.

Not at all. You could just be tired. You get that second wind staying up all night when the sun comes out. :) but yes it does create a bit of a disassociation. Half hp only use?
