Naked and living in a barrel
Never saw the series. After seeing the trailer I'm not sure what the fuss is all about. Anyone care to enlighten me?

I don't know how to describe the appeal in a few sentences. I mean, I can write something like this:
Veronica Mars is a teenager private eye. Veronica is sassy and tenacious, but she also has a mean streak and can be unforgiven and vengeful. She works for her father, former sheriff and now private detective, and strives to solve the murder of her best friend (in the first season).
The show did live on the combination of mystery solving, witty dialogue, and remarkable characters and the relationships they have. Highlights are probably the whole dynamic between her and her father and her and Logan Echolles which I will only describe as "troubled child" without going into more specifics.

Does that help?

I know that I got the first half season or so from a friend and watched it over the course of 2 days, and my two sisters also turned into fans of the show.
I've heard the show is being reruns back to back with Buffy on Pivot, so if you want to catch up, that might be your chance. (Though I have no idea what kind of station/network/thingy Pivot is and whether it's widely available or not.)

It does help if youve seen the series. But I'll say this, my favorite TV show of all time is THE WIRE, my top five favorite shows include SPORTS NIGHT, The 1st 3 Seasons of the WEST WING and VERONICA MARS.
Veronica Mars is well written, funny and engaging in a way that Buffy and other GIRLS ARE AWESOME shows are not. Even as a 30-something year old (when I watched the show), straight, black male I GOT Veronica. Essentially she's a teenaged hard boiled private eye. Because she has somewhat of a tragic past and complicated relationship with everyone from her classmates to her dad who is the sheriff.

Veronica doesnt have super powers or a trust fund with which to pay for training to make her the best in the world at EVERYTHING. But she's smart, tenacious and at times UTTERLY RUTHLESS. Especially when she's been crossed or when someone is messing with her friends. The interesting thing is that those same traits work against her and her friends as well. Often to dire effect.

Its a great show, with great characters. It's one of my favorites.

I'm so glad I supported this Kickstarter.

The first season of Veronica Mars is the best first season of any TV show I've seen. It was well acted, well written, and was not filled with typical cliches and plots. I think it went down hill after that though.

Yes, that was one of the nice things -Veronica did get herself into trouble with her attitude often enough, and she has misjudged people (in either way) or alienated people that didn't need to.

One of the beauties of this series was how it took the film noir concept and adapted it to teenage drama. Veronica was as hard-boiled as they come. She was also just 16. It never shied away from showing full characters full of trouble and hope. But it also never resorted to just tawdry-ness like some HBO shows. It was like the Wire Lite... but that description does it a disservice. If you're not into high school shows it may still be a good watch if you like detective shows. And vice versa. 3rd season kind of crumbled, and this trailer did a bad job of presenting the concept to people who haven't seen the show. But it's definitely worth it! And.... I win the long-winded award!

Hard-boiled film noir set in high school.

I think the movie is pretty much going to appeal to a) fans of the show and b) fans of sassy, tough leading ladies. But since it was Kickstarted, it's already made a good amount of money so it's okay that it will have a fairly niche appeal.

Did they have her age (as in grow older) on the show? Cuz, like, she's as old as my baby brother ... who's 33. I'm not sayin' she's not still hawt or young lookin' or whatever but high school? C'mon, brah.

She's not in high school NOW. The movie takes place at her high school reunion.
