I don't care for the things Rowling has said but there are more things in this world that are horrible than I can count and many much worse than Rowling's statements.
She said horrible things, but the biggest problem isn't what Rowling said, but what she's doing. She uses her wealth to fund anti-trans organizations that actively fight against basic rights for trans people, like access to healthcare.

I mean, just admit that you are aware that your patronage of the property causes material harm to transgender people, particularly within the UK and the US, and that you just don't care enough about that for it to matter. That's what the choice is, factually, objectively, and I really wish people would stop pretending that it isn't about that.

If only there was some lesson to internalize about one day having to make a choice between what is right, and what is easy. But where might they learn such a lesson?

Like it or not, watching this is a political decision. You are telling people funding hate is ok, as long as they are entertaining in return. It's no more difficult than that.. Unless you don't know about her spending her money this way.
It may be a political decision except when it's not. Not everyone who enjoys and follows a form of entertainment also follows the news around the personal lives of the creators or those involved in the form of media they enjoy. This is the point I was trying to make earlier, painting others with broad generalized brushstrokes because you assume they have the same information as you and should have the same opinion is poor argumentation.

I think it's probably a fair guess that most people on this board own a smartphone. Something like 70% or more of all smartphones in the world are manufactured in China and if a phone is not made there they are probably made from rare earth metals from China. Since China is perpetrating what is frequently called a genocide or at least crimes against humanity on the Uyghurs are smartphone users making a political decision?

As I said earlier I'm glad you are passionate about the issue, I think trans people should be treated with dignity and that frequently doesn't happen. However, telling people they are making political decisions when they are not (and not all anti-trans arguments are political) or saying "screw them" when you have no idea what they do or don't know is the wrong way to convince people.

But we know you are aware because you were just told.

Trailer is looking good. Can't wait to see the series this christmas together with my family. I hope they have good writers on the show, this could be very good or the new witcher bad, hard to tell from the trailer.
Yeah. So many TV media properties I was very excited about turned out to be pretty awful so it will be pleasantly surprising to me if this is actually a quality adaption. Granted Harry Potter is nowhere near as fundamental to me as Star Wars, Star Trek, or Doctor Who, but I'll be pleased if its well written and entertaining.

Morality is an inherently personal decision. No religious figure, no philosopher, no moral leader is likely to ever call you up and say "hey, this is Desmond Tutu; I'm disappointed in your behavior."

That also means that it doesn't matter if other people are unaware of the decision you're facing or even if they decide they don't care about the decision.

At the end of the day, you have to decide what sort of person you are. You can lie to your peers, you can lie to your kids, you can lie to your dog.

But you know whether or not you decided to do something to help fund someone explicitly, openly, gloatingly punching down on the most vulnerable people in Western society from her literal castle.

(and not all anti-trans arguments are political)
Oh, please do expound further on this, won't you?

I wasn't referring to myself in my post. I am pretty sure I made it clear I thought Zaukrie was making generalizations about whole groups of people unfairly and never said I felt he was targeting me. I am positive I took the time to say that I think trans people should be treated with dignity but I will even go further and say I think Rowling is a horrible person for peddling hate directed at the trans community. At no time in any of my posts did I defend her or present myself as anti-trans, I was disagreeing with Zaukrie assumptions and approach.

Ok, since you asked so nicely and without obvious sarcasm. You must lead a really insular life if you have never heard someone make a religious argument on the topic (and no, religion isn't inherently political). I personally know someone who is anti-trans and makes what he feels are scientific arguments based on the remarks of a well known evolutionary biologist, Richard Dawkins. Neither are political arguments, which is not the same as saying they may have political ramifications.

And once again, I don't buy into their positions and I am not anti-trans. However, this conversation is going nowhere so I am bowing out.
