D&D 5E Tyranny of Dragons is Coming! - the next storyline

Thank you - I knew there had to be *someone* else who remembered that, it having only been what, four years ago?

We capped off our Scales of War campaign just before Gen Con 2012. So... it's been 17 short months since my players killed Tiamat in an official WotC adventure.

Nice to see WotC is already pretending that 4th Edition didn't exist.

This impressive variety of plotlines WotC has been putting out is why we play Zeitgeist now. :D

Sounds good - but it seems to be fairly similar to the central story of Skyrim (the Elder Scrolls computer game). But that just might be me.

I wonder if there is any connection of this to the dragon cult and dracoliches from the first iteration of the forgotten realms.

First Post
I'll start by saying that I am neither enthused, nor optimistic in regards to 5E; but reading this press release did at least get me a little excited. Inaccuracies aside (like this not being the first adventure in which characters do battle with Tiamat), this sounds fun. I want my halfling rogue to do battle against viking raiders, dragon cultists, even a dragon or two, but...

I don't want this to just be a glorified season of Encounters with a Facebook or iPhone game tacked on. I want it to be the first season/year of a strong living style campaign. I'm going to by 5E anyway (pretty much everything they make for it short of crappy collectible cards that are inferior in every way to the free product that they were supposed to replace), but this would be enough to make sure that I actually get some use out of that purchase.

As has been pointed out, there are two other adventures where you kill Tiamat, and one of them was even set in the Forgotten Realms.

This strikes me more as the advertising company WotC making a mistake. Remember the last press release with the typo?
But it is generating conversation.

Cute but dangerous
*sigh* Sounds cool enough, but I am getting slightly tired of the "evil dragons" theme. What about rescuing the good dragons for a change, from the evil princesses for example?

Haha... we played Scales of War in 5e playtest - so we just go by the premise that Tiamat cannot be killed and will just reincarnate over and over again. ;)

"Starting this summer, fans will be immersed in the Tyranny of Dragons, coming face-to-face with hordes of evil dragons and, for the first time ever, will take on Tiamat, the evil 5-headed queen of dragons from the Nine Hells".

I have no idea what that is supposed to mean. Fans will be immersed? For the first time ever take on Tiamat? So any campaign that has already done that doesn't count as a real campaign? Or they mean anyone who owns a PHB will get a free adventure mailed to them?

Okay, I'm being overly critical of the phrasing, but it's after midnight here and I'm tired, and I'm getting sick of all of these announcements from WotC that are very low in the actual information conveyed.

I support the transmedia stuff because I think it will keep the Hasbro execs satisfied and let the D&D designers work on their own schedule, and because I happen to like D&D transmedia stuff. I'm just getting a little concerned that the nature of the tabletop game is being diluted, and I sure as heck do not want to see D&D converted into some sort of "organized play is primary, individual gaming groups are secondary." That's exactly the opposite of how it's traditionally been and I really hope it stays that way.

All that being said, I do think the storyline the link referenced sounds cool.

ICv2 contacted WotC for more details and the company replied: "We do not have any additional information to share at this time, but we will be releasing details on Tyranny of Dragons products and organized play offerings in the coming months."
