I wonder if we'll get answers to the questions everyone is actually asking (format/pricing/release date)? It would be an odd way to announce such things....

I'd doubt it. If the game is in fact getting released in and around GenCon, I wouldn't expect any announcements until the beginning of summer. A two month media blitz seems more likely than dribs and drabs of info over the course of four or more months.

I agree, but then that just makes this a bad idea. Wait until we know this other stuff, then do a Q&A about the actual game, rather than answer a bunch of questions with, "Sorry, we can't answer that right now," and upsetting people from the get go.

Yeah, this was my thought as well. Why announce specifically a Q&A session if you aren't ready to talk about most things having to do with the game.

Unless they are planning on announcing the release date right before the Q&A and that's why they are doing it.

Either that or they just know that one of the people will be missing for their streaming game and have just preemptively replaced it with a Q&A where they don't answer any real questions.

Honestly, I think they need to make an announcement before May 18 when event registration opens for GenCon.

I think it'll be very difficult for them to advertise their events without the public knowing FOR SURE that the books will be available or not.

After all, if you read an event description that says "Living Campaign event #1: a 4 hour adventure that takes place in Waterdeep. You must bring your own character made according to the Living Campaign Guidelines." without having announced the Living Campaign's name or any information about it. Also, if the Living Campaign requires you to make characters then there needs to be some info about whether books will be out by then or everyone will be wary to sign up for them.

I also know that Dave Christ who is in charge of the events at GenCon has already posted all the events to the GenCon event database as he tweeted that it was complete.

I mean, it's certainly possible that they made the descriptions of the vents extremely vague in order to preserve the mystery. They could just say "A D&D Next adventure that is 4 hours long".

Assuming the questions for the Q&A will be gathered by Trevor and given to the developers (like what happened on their last Q&A they had to do because two of their Live Game players couldn't make it)... they'll probably be given selected questions that Trevor knows they can answer. Probably going further into some of the class information they've already given, follow-up info on stuff like dragon lairs, and other stuff they've talked about in all their columns.

Since we know the game is 97.6% completed (according to Perkins at PAX East)... the actual rules of the game are pretty much set. So it's just a matter of deciding how much of a taste do they want to give of those rules to whet the appetite of the small percentage of us who are on the websites waiting with baited breath for the Big Reveal. So they'll give just enough info for us forums geeks to spend the next month and a half arguing and complaining about it... thereby taking us right into the actual marketing announcements going out in like late May or early June to the other 90% of the population who don't even know a new game has been developed in the first place.

I can say that as volunteer scheduled to DM at GenCon, yeah, that's pretty much all the info I got about what I was going to be doing.

We are already getting dribs and drabs of info. :)
