D&D 5E Pages from the PHB

A person's reaction to the Wild Surge table tells you a lot about that person.

Personally, I've always found D&D to be the game of rather silly chaos, so I think it fits in perfectly. It's easy enough to replace a result if it comes up a second time, or make a whole new chart.

Also, this is probably my favourite bit of 5E art so far. It's quirky and weird, which is all to the good.

A couple more thoughts:
Kobold Stew: Mearls has repeatedly said that alignment will be easily removable from the game, and I don't think a single result on the Wild Surge table invalidates that. If you're not using alignment it's easy enough to either re-roll or treat it as an opportunity to roleplay a personality change in your character.
Paraxis: You're no fun! Seriously, though, I'm happy that there are things like this that are not going to work for some people in the "core" books. It helps emphasise the point that this is your game and that you should make changes wherever you see fit. Only Basic is actually core, and even that will be plenty modified by some of the modules in the DMG. Go crazy and make D&D your own, I say.

I see the PHB, MM, & DMG as the core books, the free Basic Rules pdf is just a teaser that will get thrown away once the real books come out.

I don't want to see anything in those core books that I don't like, I understand I will that is just how it goes but to me it is a bad sign that the first real look at the finished product and it makes me ignore an entire subclass to suit the taste of my playstyle.

I don't like house rules, I do use them but I see them as doing the designers work for them and if I have to have a lot of them I start to ask myself "Why should I give them money for something I am going to change 50% of?".

I don't want to come off sounding all doom and gloom, I am still looking forward to this new edition, but this is like going to a world renown sushi place and the first sampler is those little egg filled things instead of say an Unagi eel roll.

57 - 58 Your alignment changes to a randomly determines one. A remove curse spell can restore your original alignment.

Ugh...

The table is otherwise good. But this means whoever wrote this table thinks PC Alignment determines PC actions, rather than vice-versa, which is just bloody terrible on so many levels.

Mistakes

Did someone else notice some mistakes in the table? like "61-6 " or the line by "67-68" is not finished...

Didn´t they say, that the Handbook will go to print very soon...? That worries me a bit...

Paraxis: So you consider the large chunk of the DMG that consists of optional modules and advice on how to modify the rules to be core? But you just said you don't like house rules ... damn, maybe you'll have to house rule that stuff out...

two coppers

I'm pretty sure anyone can play 5E with no house rules.

With that being said, I do believe 5E is explicitly designed with house rules in mind; not because the devs are lazy but because they understand that every table plays the game differently.

How is it hard to understand that there are going to be "core" optional modules in the DMG? They carry more weight and are official optional rules. Just like how the rules in the 3e Unearthed Arcana's rules were more official than the ton of 3rd party products published or random rules from peoples blogs.

If I say we are using optional modules from the DMG for X, Y, and Z my players will be able to see what I am talking about and hopefully why I might want to use them.
