Me too. Every once in a while it's handy to order something from the States. Weird about Amazon.ca though; I hadn't realized it was boxed sets. I think they're still selling the 4E Red Box...which may be enough justification not to carry any more D&D boxes regardless of your opinions of 4E.

Hmm, you are right, they do carry the Red Box. I had it in my head that every time I tried to order a boxed set, they didn't have it. I do know that they did not have any of the Dungeon Tile Master Sets either. Or the first 4e starter set.

Edit: And on topic, I pre-ordered on Amazon, but am going to check out the local gaming store to see if they are getting it early. I know they are in the WPN, but judging from the responses on here, it is not a guarantee that they will be getting it. Depending on their mark-up, I may buy it early and send my Amazon copy to my brother.

I just don't know if I can wait 2 weeks (or longer depending on if Amazon is going to send them out early like they did with the 4e pre-orders).

I had to visit a couple LGSs before I found one that could confirm they'd be getting copies on the 3rd. All of the stores I went to are WPN stores, but the first couple places either hadn't heard anything from their WotC rep or just plain knew they wouldn't be getting any new D&D stuff till they could meet the minimum order. The guy at the place at which I finally did make arrangements told me that there are different tiers of WPN, and even at the top tier (like his store) the reps mostly just talked about M:tG.

While I'm glad the Starter Set exists and approve of the specific contents, I have no interest in buying the thing. Provided Wizards releases the Big 3 in PDF, I'll be buying them later this year, but I have no use for a starter product.

Aargh, the willful ignorance of my local(ish) store is maddening. I just got off the phone after calling them to ask when they'll have the Starter Set, and they told me, "We're in the period when you can preorder it, but there's no release date yet".

IOW, they don't know, haven't bothered to find out, and don't really want my money.

I guess Amazon it is...

I probably pick it up at my LIRWS (Local Internet Retailer Warehouse Store) Cool Stuff Games. It also my FLGS... but it's not a hole in the wall or "Mom and Pop", nor is it's business model the same as most other FLGSes but I really the prices (generally 25-50% lower than msrp) and they have a nice "the more you buy, the greater your savings" plan.

I only pre-ordered after the unboxing video came out. I'm going Amazon, because (a) I have Prime, and get everything on Amazon; and (b) because it's worth $12 to me, but not $20.

Same with the PHB; it's worth $35 to me for reading and checking it out. It's not worth $50 for those purposes.

Same here. Prime is the way to go.

Obviously, I'm getting mine at my (and I do mean MY) FLGS. :D

Forcing myself self to wait until Thursday morning will be the problem!

YOUR store is MY store! So great to buy a new version of D&D at the greatest game store in the world, GAMES PLUS, which has been my FLGS for 30 years!!!

I wasn't on the phone with you (or was I? *shifty eyes*) but what caused you to make the jump from "ignorance" to "willful ignorance?" I mean I'm on these forums basically every day, I've discussed all manner of things about 5e; and I don't even know (exactly) the date of the Starter Set's release (or any of them specifically). Now it isn't my livelihood to sell things to people so maybe that would be an incentive to find out but if they don't know couldn't it just be simple ignorance? Just curious.
