Character Submission Thread

Ana,

Welcome to LPF. Looks like we're slowly building up a clutch of 1st level characters again.

Scott already handled the non-judge approval in a rather prompt fashion. I had just a couple observations for you to use at your own discretion before going into a judge review:

- I couldn't find any reference suggesting Monks were proficient with the Urumi. Odd weapon, to be sure, but a d8 with a 18-20 crit range is pretty good.

- It seems you have a lot of overlap in abilities between your Fighter archetype and the monk class which is stated as your favored class. Monk is classically anti-synergistic with Fighter, to the point of stating you just lose some Monk abilities when wearing armor/carrying a shield, such as the bonus to AC.

Monk is on my short list of characters to play, but I don't know how long it is until I'll have the opportunity. It's an interesting choice.

looking over it . . . .

Also for your time killing pleasure, a joke:

Did you know that the gladius has a perpetually depressed cousin: Called sadius.

*cough* *ahem* That was actually for @GlassEye .

OK, serious question: I see you have Monk as your favored class. You are starting with fighter. Now I am just being nosy here . . . . What is the advantage to taking levels of fighter other then bab?

I got a good laugh out of that, but I'm a sucker for puns. :p

So fighter gives me the bonus style feat, the armor proficiency, and importantly for my vision of the armed and armored kung fu fighter the full suite of monk group weapons. :) I'll lose some of the monk abilities, but I'm cool with that. Trade offs and all that happy stuff. I'm willing to make compromises for the overall vision.

When I asked around when I was doing my legwork initially for my idea, the consensus on the paizo board was that the unarmed fighter getting the monk "weapon group" as described in ultimate combat. As for the synergy, part of it comes from going the more str/dex route and less wisdom based route. I'm intentionally using armor and shield to supplant the lower wisdom bonus unarmored would give me (if I made it level 2 and my first monk level), the loss of those monk features I think is partially livable due to some experience I've had with playing monks. (I've not had a ton of use out of fast movement, I mentioned unarmored above, and well I have had terrible luck with flurry of blows connecting.) I intend to use the Qinggong and master of many styles archetypes for monk, so dropping more features is happening too. :p

Ah, it does appear the Unarmed Fighter gets those (monk weapons group) weapons, even the exotic ones a monk would not. Odd, but it seems to be that way.

I guess they figured that a fighter didn't get the cool unarmed damage, so instead of breaking people in two with their hands and feet they could at least use all those cool weapons that they've been adding in these books. ^.^

Oh, and worth mentioning with one approval you can participate in the Dunn Wright Inn role-play thread, which has been a bit stunted due to the recent* clear-out of about all active characters. Although my second character didn't get any DWI time, my first had some significant things happen there that has carried over into both of the game threads she has been in. In any case, helps pass the time while we build up to enough characters for a new game.

* Well, since late April. 'Recent' is a relative term in PBP. :)

You would like to say I forgot to mention that, but in the spirit of relativity of space and time, I said it - it just has not happened in this reality until now.

sure, that's the ticket.

That sounds good, I'll keep tabs on the Inn thread and in here for a second approval and/or changes I need to make.

And I'm glad to hear someone gets the concept :) Most girls spent their childhood playing with friends, I spent mine playing d&d, and watching kung fu movies with my dad. Now I've fused them! Bwahaha
