Every edition has had many good aspects. They did a good job combining them into a great game. Many kudos to the development team! Looking forward to the big books! :)

For some of us, this is the version of D&D we've been waiting for for a long, long time.

Completely agree. Even the stuff my group was highly skeptical about before in reading the previews and rules totally made sense in actual play over the weekend. Thanks Mearls and Co.

I agree! *Cheers!*

I'm extremely excited to play some 5th ed., but what most impresses me is the way they've conducted the process leading up to it. It was not just a transparent but a genuinely sincere attempt to involve the fans in the creation of the game and to get it right.
+1.

I'm clapping too. The playtest has been fun, and I anticipate the fun to continue for basic and beyond. Great work WoTC!

Agreed. From what we have seen so far, I think 5E looks to be a magnificent achievement. It has the simplicity of BECMI, the quirkiness of AD&D, the versatility of 3E, and the rigorous balance of 4E, wrapped up with a few elements uniquely its own (most notably flaws/ideals/bonds).

My only major criticism is that somebody put the wrong release date on the Player's Handbook. It's supposed to be out TODAY. Also the Monster Manual, the DMG, the entire Rise of Tiamat adventure path, and the Complete Book of Necromancers. They all ought to be in my hands by 5 PM today, Eastern time. I don't think this is an unreasonable request, but if it's really hard, I guess we could make it Pacific time instead. :D

Yes! Couldn't agree more! For the last year or so, this team has demonstrated the kind of passion, attention to detail, and love of the game that we all look for in its designers. 5E looks to be a great product...not to everyone's taste, I'm sure, but certainly something they can be proud of. Well done to all!

So far so good as far as I am concerned, the new edition seems to have hit the "streamlined play that focuses more on DM fiat than hordes of rules" that they were going for.

I have been continually amazed at how almost every major design decision they made was just what I wanted. Was I the only one who filled out the survey?
