D&D 5E Hell leadership change.

Looking at the new Monster Manual one of my few complaints is that unlike the Demons the Devil leadership is not given descriptions other then Asmodeus. I really want a discription because the membership of the lords of the nine has changed slightly since 4e. Zariel is now the ruler of the 1st lair having usurped Bel. (Who had usurped her in the past) The only detail we have on her is from the Angel page were it mentioned she is a fallen Angel. I really want to know more about Hells leadership in 5e.

Those poor leaders of the lower planes. They much dread the coming of a new edition since it always seems that something happens to them in between editions. It would be a lot cooler if these changes happened in an adventure or in a way that PCs could interact with the change and have it be more meaningful.

Maybe that's why it's omitted in the MM then?

Personally, for what the OP is asking for, I'd rather see in a supplement than the MM. That way I don't feel like I'm chained to any particular pre-set history or heirarchy if I don't get the supplement. I can just throw in them as I see fit in my own campaign.

Yeah, something like the Time of Troubles!

Err. Or not.

I think a living world has changes the PCs are not involved in. It might be cool to include them, but I actually have never understood the desire to have a stagnant world that many DMs seem to want from game companies.

It's a fine line to walk.

In theory, I agree with you 100%. But in practice...

We've all made, or at least seen, complaints about some of the old modules, where the PCs were just observers, along for the ride. Where they didn't actually participate in the final conflict, except perhaps on the periphery, and where their actions didn't actually impact the final results.

Yet, when the company is making story changes, they have to have full control over the results.

I'm not saying it can't be done. There are ways to make the PCs feel like they've truly accomplished something while still making the change that needs making, or you can do a module and then say "The published materials moving forward assume that ending X happened, rather than Y or Z."

But none of the solutions is perfect, and it's a tricky thing to pull off even somewhat well.

I don't think anyone really wants a stagnant world.

What they (we?) want, is a jumping off point.

If it was easy to do I'm sure people would do it. As Piratecat said the Time of Troubles was just horrible. Running those modules was the last thing I ever did with the Forgotten Realms. But just because it has been done bad in the past doesn't mean we should stop trying. I prefer to see people make the attempt.

The introductory Adventure path to 5E is based around the Rise of Tiamat... I doubt they will destroy a god at 15th lvl but it I like that they are dealing with iconics in this way.

So Tiamat stirs up her dragons... what will follow to stir up dungeons?
