D&D 5E Inappropriate breasts on female monsters

Does it bug you when creatures that logically shouldn't have breasts are illustrated with them in D&D art? In the previous edition, Dragonborn, Minotaurs and Shard born females were all given breasts, even though Dragonborn are reptilian, Minotaurs would logically have udders, and Shard born aren't even biological. I think monsters and PC races should only be drawn with breasts if: 1) they would logically have them, or 2) they are traditionally depicted as having them. What do you think...?

Why would Minotaur have udders? They only have bovine heads, and possibly legs depending on the artist. Their torso's are human. Do you think they have four stomachs and are herbivores as well?

It's really not that concerning to me. It's fantasy and I'm not terribly concerned about purely accurate anatomy for my monsters.

I agree Elderbrain. I think it's just second nature for artists to draw anything that looks somewhat like a human with the defining human characteristics (male = larger/muscular, female = breasts). I would love it if the artists were more creative and thought outside of human characteristics when depicting different species.

Hi, I'm a woman who has taken up this cause, since men seem to miss the whole point..

Dragon born and Shardmind are PC races ( I guess Minotaurs can be) as a woman I want to play a woman. I identify some pretty basic features, and on a visual level Breast and hips are the easiest. I have no doubt that if a male PC was forces to visually represent themselves as a ken doll down there the explosion would be huge...

I have met only 1 woman gamer who had a problem with "Dragon boobs" but I've meet dozens of men who do. On the other hand I can count more woman gamers then I have fingers who would consider it an insult to woman everywhere to make anyone have to deal with "Well our fantasy race that can be made anyway we want have to not represent women"

so, would you be ok with it effecting male characters removing charactristics that men identify with in the real world?

edit: and if someone doesn't understand how a woman would consider breasts a major part of there self identity look up what happens with breast cancer and when you need to have them removed...

I have no issues at all with it, they are fantasy creatures that don't exist they can look like anything.

But if you need some kind of justification, just add it to the lore of the creatures.

When shardminds are formed they imprint for the pattern is taken from dreams of sleeping humanoids both male and female and the dreams help shape the shardminds into that idealized self image although made of crystals.

Minotaurs were originated from a magical curse on a human or group of humans so that most of the features have human characteristics.

Dragonborn were made by ancient dragons to help them in a war, the dragons had other humanoids in their armies and thought a form familiar to what those humanoids possesed would make them more welcome among the armies.

With magic, you don't need evolution and biology to try and justify why things look of should look the way they do. In D&D worlds the races were crafted by gods and magic so they can look like anything.

Without magic, explain why dragons can fly, insects can be horse sized, flumphs, and so on.

So dragonborn with breasts, no issues at all.

On a players perspective the women I game with tend to like their characters to look feminine, when they play dragonborn they like that it has breasts so they identify with it more. But different people different views, some women might dislike dragonborn with boobs and would rather play them without in this case just say those dragonborn are flat chested or say all female dragonborn in your world don't have breasts. It is like bearded dwarven women, sounds funny and all but I have never met a female gamer who wanted to play a bearded dwarven woman, but plenty that like to play dwarves.

It's always interesting where people draw the line. A humanoid race that looks reptilian and may be descended from dragons is fine even though it may have unrealistic body structure, tails, and wings. But add breasts and suddenly there is a problem.
