wow could not disagree with you more, but I guess that is just opionon diffrences...
um... how is "I roll a 20 and kill the Orc" any worse then "I use spell X and Orc dies"? I really really want those two items back... but I guess again it is just opionon diffrences to style here..
AHHHH!!! no... just no. That would kill 5e for me or any other game.
because in game each and every suit is different. some people wear leather armor for 20 levels... and ALOT choose not to up grade past X type.
what should he find in it's place?
I can't even get close to wraping my mind around this... each armor is different... what do you mean? What would I want in place of a suit of leather armor +1, a suit of non-magical studded leather and a copper piece because that has more value.
The way this edition designed armor is just horrible, there is only 1 or 2 usable choices per tier.
A returning magic dagger with an alternate longsword mode and grants True sight.

I will admite that I have not yet gotten to play since the playtest stuff, but doesn't each class have there own prof so a wizard making armor for people able to use different armors... and if you use encombrence (atleast in playtest) low str rogues really need magic leather, because 3lbs matterI mean a suit of leather armor +1, gives the same AC as a suit of non magical studded leather. I don't know how I can be clearer. The only difference is 3 lbs, and the look of the armor. A DM might interpret a druids unwillingness to wear metal armor as to cover studded leather, but an open minded DM is willing to allow bone or other materials to be the studs.
So if some NPC was like I will trade this "magic" item for a 100 gp gem, I would laugh at him, purchase a suit a studded leather and have 55 gold left to drink and make merry.
I like how the Gauntlets of Ogre Power set your Str at 19 rather than giving a bonus. That's a great way to avoid item cheese. So more stuff like that, I guess.
3 vorpral swords AND sword of sharpness
